“Designed by a genius”

Barcelo Malaga

This place will exceed most people's expectations. A real sense of style, giving it a Radisson or Park Plaza sort of feel. OK so a close look reveals everything seems to have been built to a tight budget but that in itself has to be admired. It even achieved that 'no-one's ever had this room before' feel.

The room was very smart without being lavish. The multi-jet shower was great, the bed was large and very comfortable and the hi-tech window blackout creates a real risk of sleeping all morning. Mind you, with breakfast being served until midday that might not be a problem!

Only a real traditionalist could fail to be impressed by the Barcelo but sadly the stunning but permanently empty bar area is just too cool for its own good. But this hotel aims for fun design, not functional design: the slide from the first floor to the ground is one of many things that prevents it feeling too business-oriented.

The breakfast can compete with the likes of Marriott, very generous choice and even 'champagne'.

The location's extremely handy, right on top of the train station which links straight to the airport, and only ten minutes' walk from the most attractive parts of the city. Just be sure to jump out at 'Malaga RENFE' on arrival (not the next stop, 'Centro', which is the end of the line). Attached to the hotel is a modern shopping centre, very attractive as shopping centres go, and Avis car-hire is by the hotel's rear entrance.

For a few days in Malaga you could spend a lot more without doing better.

Smart and funky hotel especially for the price, very modern I would have no problem recommending this hotel as a great place to stay, very easy to get to from the airport by train which stops in the new shopping centre below.

Breakfast is very good with a very wide choice for everyone, rooms are new, clean and very modern, the hotel has a slide from the 1st floor to ground.

Staff are also very helpful.

We only stayed for the weekend in Malaga so did not use all the aminities on offer, Malaga Center is about 10-15 minute walk which was the only draw back but an easy walk or cab ride.

Not much in Malaga except for a few museums which we did visite and some goodish nightlife which we found, all in all a good weekend destination but not sure if any longer would be worth it could get a bit boring unless you travel further afield.

we went for a weekend break to malaga and stopped at the barcelo. The hotel is fantastic we loved it.
The service was excellant the staff were very polite and helpful.
The rooms were lovely, very modern with a hugh comfy bed. We were put in a twin room to start with instead of a double but it was sorted out quickly with no fuss, they even moved our bags for us while we went out for a walk.
There is a bar downstairs, which has no actual bar - a waiter appears out of a door to take your drinks order, and magically reappears whenever you are nearing the bottom of your glass.
We had breakfast at the hotel both mornings and the food was of a high standard with plenty of choice. It was also served untill late on weekends (around 11 am) so you didn't have to get up to early.
The best bit about this hotel is the slide which goes from the first floor to the ground floor, it is the only way to travel ! lots of fun.
The hotel was easy to get to from the airport by train just hop on the train heading towards malaga town centre and get off at renfe vialia which is the station at the indoor shopping centre where the hotel is located.
The only problem with the weekend was that malaga itself was rubbish - nothing to see or do after the cathedral and the picaso gallery which didn't really fill the weekend.

Just back form a 5 night stay in the Barcelo in Malaga. We arrived at Malaga Airport and caught the train to Renfe Train station. This station is below the Hotel. Which was extremely convinent and cheap way of getting to and from the hotel. All hotel staff we met were friendly, helpful, quick and efficient.
Our room was clean and comfortable with all modern conveniences. The shower was excellent. It really helped to shake off the cobwebs. After our 1st night we had to be moved due to a leak in the bathroom and the electric window blind been broken. Another room was organised for us quickly and we were offered assistance with moving therefore it was not a big problem. There was Satatalite TV in the room but there was only 2 English Speaking stations - MTV and a News Station.
Breakfast was really good, there was lots of choice and everyone was catered for. Breakfast is served until 11 at weekends and 10.30 during the week.
The hotel is not in a great area of Malaga but a taxi to the centre of town cost apporximately €4.50. It also only took abouth 20 mins to walk to town.
As the train station was below the hotel it was a cheap and easy to catch a train to some of the local beech resorts.
The rooms were sound proofed therefore we did not here any noise from either the train station or the building site beside the hotel.
My husband enjoyed the slide that brought your from the 1st floor to the bar.
The bar was very quiet at night. The decor was not to my taste and you would not feel like relaxing in it for long. This was one of the least pleasnt areas in the hotel. Dont expext it to buzzing during the week off season. We never saw anyone in it.
The hotel is part of modern shopping centre. Which has a good selection of clothes shops. There were lots of convience food restaurants in it also (Pizza/Burger) but we did not try any of then out.

  • This TripAdvisor Member:
    • Liked — Breakfast was very good and staff were always available to ask questions at the reception.
    • Disliked — Some of the children who used the slide were not been supervised and they were at risk of falling from it as they were not been carful. The location of the hotel was not good.
