My boyfriend and I enjoyed an amazing holiday in Marbella, Spain from April 11th -17th, 2006. One of the areas that we visited was Puerto Banus about twice to eat, to shop and to party. We are in our late 20’s and we thought it would be expensive in Puerto Banus but it was to our surprised that it really wasn't that bad and wasn’t worried about over spending our trip money unless we wanted to buy something ridiculous like a $700 pair of shoes or a $250 bottle of Champagne. Either way you can make it as inexpensive or expensive if you wanted too. Puerto Banus was just reasonable in my opinion with plenty of places to eat and drink on the Marina strip over looking the yachts. To us the area was no more expensive than another popular city but find parts of Boston (USA) more expensive than Puerto Banus. Anyway, there are all kinds of fabulous luxury shopping. In whole, you will find more tourist than locals visiting the Marina. As far as celebrity finding, maybe they were shy to come out when we were in the area because we didn’t see any or expecting to see any. In all, you will find just unknown wealthy people, pretty tanned locals, and incredible but impressive yachts. The yachts were a site to see! The boats seemed to get bigger and competitive than the next. The whole Marina community was a huge parking lot of expensive water villas. That’s a best description I can give you until you see Puerto Banus yourself. Also my boyfriend says that it’s similar to Monte Carlo but Puerto Banus is prettier. In the evening, Puerto Banus nightlife is supberb! This place is definitely a great place to hang out for Bars and nightclubs. There are certainly plenty of bars on the marina strip, but more bars & nightclubs one street up, parallel of the marina. Take any side alley from the marina strip to access the nightclub area (30 seconds to cross). The Spaniards sure know how to party (from 1AM-7AM) which is the hours nightlife normally starts and ends. Also there are cover charges to get into a club but they are lots of club representatives trying to get random people to get in their clubs for free by passing out VIP cards. To me that was pretty tacky so we weren’t interested in going to the clubs or paying a high cover charge just to find out we didn’t like the club. We stuck with the bars and drank our $2 Euro (each) for beers in a glass and danced at another bar with no cover. Go for the local beer because chances are they are cheaper than foreign at most bars. So yes, we had a great time and the area seemed safe but use common sense and don’t wear flashy expensive jewelry, clothes, etc. There’s no real dress code per say. Men dress in jeans and nice sport coat but the women look dressy but not over the top. Anyway, I took very good photos of Puerto Banus that would better give you an idea what it would look like by day and night. Anyway, Puerto Banus is just wonderful, beautiful, and the area is just so Superstar! We both loved our visit to Spain and would return in a heartbeat!
