I have very mixed opinions about the Griego Mar so make sure you read this all the way through! Me and 2 of my closest friends booked a week at the Griego Mar, half board, in July for £250 which was an absolute bargain and we all agree that we are very easy to please and don't expect much from a hotel.
We do expect to be given a room and customer service, however!! Upon arrival at this hotel we were told that there was no room for us (despite having booked our holiday 4 months in advance) we were sent to another hotel overnight and told to come back the next morning at 10.
We turned up at 10 and the woman on reception told us we'd have to wait til 2pm for our room to be ready and that we'd only booked for 2 people (there were 3 of us) and we'd have to pay for the third person. To resolve this we had to call a hotline, premium rate phone line from our mobiles after the receptionist refused to let us borrow a phone. The people at the end of the hotline were very very helpful and got everything faxed to the hotel within minutes. The stuff they faxed was the confirmation we already had with us so we felt a bit like we weren't believed and also the staff really didn't care and left us sitting and waiting for ages.
Now the positive bit!!!! Our room was small but arguably one of the best in the hotel. We had a big balcony, overlooked the pool and could see the sea.
The food in the hotel was outstanding. The biggest buffet I've ever seen and with the biggest variety. There was lots of fresh veg and salad (which was refreshing as the days were very hot) and great meat dishes, vegetarian selections, pasta, kids food and deserts. We are spoilt for choice, it was brilliant. Anyone who says the food was poor is insane!!!
The hotel was well kept and always clean with maid service everyday. The pool was a bit small but there was so much to do in Torremolinos that it didn't bother us!
The location of the hotel, although set back from the beach was incredible. It took about 20 minutes to walk to the beach but we were grateful of this as it meant we discovered some great windy streets with amazing shops, cafes and bars. Griego Mar is only a 10 minute walk away from Aqualand as well which is the best waterpark I have ever been to (had the best day ever there!).
One problem we did have with the hotel was the lifts. We were on floor 6 and sometimes the lifts took about 5 minutes to come. We didn't let it bother us though and were often found jumping down the stairs.
The hotel's entertainment is awful. The entertainment team are very "in-your-face" and annoying and the one day we stayed around for the evening show, it turned out to be very provocative and stuffed with sexual innuendoes. It was something we would have expected to find on a 18-30's holiday, not in a family hotel.
Me and my friends had an absolutely wonderful holiday and wish we could've stayed longer. The hotel treated us badly but we didn't let that get us down as we're fairly easy going people anyway. I loved Torremolinos as it was very Spanish and pretty but I wouldn't go back to the Griego Mar. I'm not saying don't go here, I just think that if you've booked a cheap holiday you get what you pay for. If you've got a bit more money to spend on a holiday then look elsewhere. But go to Torremolinos, it's such a great place.
