We spent 3 nights and 4 days at the hotel and we will eagerly stay there next time we are in Seville. This is a traditional Spanish hotel that is elderly but not ancient. No bonbons on the pillow and no turn down service. It is well maintained. Rooms are slightly smaller than traditional American chain hotels, but they are quiet, comfortable, clean and safe. Our beds were comfortable. The staff speaks several languages and they were all very helpful and friendly. The free Wi-Fi was stable and adequate for email and streaming of news stories and stock market reports i.e. it was much better than American hotels that charge for their Wi-Fi. The distribution of the signal was not the same in all areas of the hotel. Our first room was weak, but the staff gladly changed our 2 rooms to a location with a much stronger signal. The food at the hotel was a real treat. The hotel has two eating venues: breakfast and dinner are available in the 2nd floor dining room and lunch and dinner are available in the “Cafeteria” which is really a Tapas Bar and rates a “YUM” star. Evenings in the Tapas bar can sometimes get noisy if it is football season but the flavor of the foods will help you overcome and anxiety you may have about the noise. On Sundays, weather permitting, lunch is also available on the street side Tapas patio eating area directly in front of the hotel - it gets a “Yum Yum” rating for the char broiled eating options. Breakfast was a traditional Spanish fare with meats, cheeses, pate, breads, jams, jellies, yogurts, cereals, granola, pastries, croissants, cakes, doughnuts, fruits, juices, wrapped cookies, cakes, hard boiled eggs, two different machines that dispensed coffees, hot coco and hot water for the tea selection. The real food treats came in the tapas lunch and dinner menu and the fix prix dinner menu which can change daily and are quite reasonably priced – did I mention YUM?. The hotel is a really good value for the money because of the perks such as free hotel shuttle service to and from the center of Seville. The trips each day were wonderful as we passed by the pavilion buildings of the Ibero-American Exposition of 1929 which was a world's fair held in Seville, Spain, from 9 May 1929 until 21 June 1930. The wonderful pavilion buildings are located outside the city center and include: Portugal, the United States, Brazil, Uruguay, Mexico, Peru, Argentina, Chile, the Republic of Colombia, Cuba, Venezuela, the Dominican Republic, Bolivia, Panama, El Salvador, Costa Rica, and Ecuador. Several of these pavilions are really spectacular and not to be missed. While we were at the Hotel Dona Carmela, our shuttle driver was actually the owner of the hotel. With advance notice he willing took quest to the airport, bus and train stations for their departure trips at no change and refused our offer to provide him with a tip for his service. In addition there is a local bus stop behind the hotel that goes to the city center and beyond. Bottom line - this hotel was enjoyable and we would like to go back and spend more time there to enjoy more of what Seville has to offer.
