Recently visited San Sebastian (Donostia) - it was love at first sight for me. The city is not very big, pedestrian friendly - in a space of half an hour you can get from the train station to downtown and to the beach by walking. Beautiful old buildings where each door and window is an architectural marvel. Bridge Maria Christina is spectacular with beautiful columns and statues. The food is exquisite, people are friendly and very patient with the tourists that don't speak their languages. You can visit San Sebastian at any time of the day and find something to do. Although for shopaholics it would be useful to know that most stores are closed mid day (from around 1 pm until 4pm) and stay open later in the evening (around 8 pm). Pintxo bars would not disappoint the most discriminative food critics, and the prices are very affordable for both food and drinks. No matter what you would like to do - there is something that San Sebastian will offer to all tastes: lovely walks, beautiful beaches, scenic views, lots of old buildings and churches - you name it, it is there. Public transportation within the city is awesome. It is one of those cities that you don't want to leave and can't wait to come back to.
