We have just returned from a 4 night break in Palma in April. Hotel was excellent. Very good service, large room (we booked a double superior overlooking courtyard), huge shower, looks like it does on hotel's website. Very conveniently located just off a main shopping street and very near old town and only 5 minutes walk from main bus and train station. 10 -15 minute walk to Cathedral and restaurant area. Were slightly concerned booking hotel as others had mentioned back alley to hotel and needles etc. We did not find this at all. Hotel down side street off a main shopping street. Palma feels very safe place to walk around at night, lots of different types of police around. Food we had in hotel was excellent, fresh pasta dish, probably best pasta every had. Didn't have breakfast as seemed very expensive, used cafes instead. Half bottle of cava arrived in room on husband's birthday which was nice surprise. Certainly would return to hotel and recommend for a short break.
Palma was a great place for a very relaxing city break. Take the bus no.1 from airport, it is so easy to find as others have said. Exit door 4 and cross road by taxi rank, buses run every 15 minutes and only cost 1.85 euro. Get off at Plaza Espana, sign inside bus tells you where you are so no hazzles (20 minute journey). Hotel then 5 minutes walk. Took only one hour from plane landing to checking into hotel.
Suggestions of things we did. Old town easy to walk around lots of cafes and restaurants. We got city tour bus from Plaza Espana stop, costs 13 euro, not as interesting as buses in Rome, but does give bearings (did first day) and also takes you up to castle. Only 2.10 euro to go inside and get great views of city.
Bon Lloc vegetarian restaurant, Carrer Sant Feliu which is off Passeig des Born, has great value 4 course set lunch with water for 13 euros. Food very good, get there by 1.30 as fills up quickly. Lots of tapas bars down Carrer dels Apuntadors (again off Passeig des Born) and round La Llotja.
We took the train (10.10 am) to Soller and tram to Port Soller and then got express bus (211) back. Hotel will print off timetables for you. Train leaves from Plaza Espana (not main station) and costs 9 euro one way to Soller. Fun to get and lovely scenery over mountains. Tram from Soller to Port Soller costs 3 euros and coincide with train arrivals and run every 30 mins as well. Port Soller was lovely, very picturesque and sandy beach. The express bus (211) costs only 2.75 euros back and takes 45 minutes. Bus stop is up side street (sorry don't know name) opposite the public toilets on the front road. Stop outside church. Buses air conditioned and very cheap and comfortable and seemed to run to time.
Bus station at Plaza Espana with buses going all over the island. Would definitely return and explore other places as so easy.
