Just back from short trip to Palma. The Mision de San Miguel couldn't have been better. Excellent position, as other reviewers have said - very close to Plaza Espanya, Plaza Mayor etc, and a short walk to main shopping area/seafront. Room lovely, although bathroom on the small side! Top floor, with a very nice rooftop terrace - some terrace furniture would have been nice. Bar, dining room excellent - we had breakfast every morning, and dinner 3 nights. Courtyard lovely for afternoon drinks. Staff extremely helpful, Berta - one of the waitresses - looked after us superbly. Hubby is vegetarian and ordering meals without meat or fish was no problem. Loved it - would return in a second. Hints - Soller and Port de Soller are a lovely visit on the train, but take the bus from Palma bus station (just north of the train station) to Valldemossa - absolutely beautiful. Bus fare was 1.55 euros each way - what a bargain!

Have just got back from a long weekend in Palma with a friend where we stayed at the Mision de San Miguel. This is a superbly situated hotel where you are well placed to explore Palma. You can walk to the Cathedral in 10 minutes and from the Playa Espanya (where all the main buses go from) in 2.

The hotel itself is very clean and stylish with fantastic showers! There is also a lovely courtyard in which to have a drink or indeed enjoy a sunny lunch as we did upon our arrival.

I had noted before we went the reviews on here concerning the alleyway leading to the hotel, but we found this fine with no evidence of drugs paraphenalia, so hopefully previous comments have been taken on board.

Our only disappointment was that breakfast was not incuded in the price and this would have cost an extra 12.50-15 euros. Instead we breakfasted at Capuccino next door which was lovely and a bit cheaper!

Would also recommend a tapas bar called La Boveda that we found in the Sa Llotja area of the city - superb wine, food and atmosphere and encouragingly, absolutely rammed with locals!

Loved Palma, and would recommend this hotel.

“Great city break hotel”

We have just returned from a 4 night break in Palma in April. Hotel was excellent. Very good service, large room (we booked a double superior overlooking courtyard), huge shower, looks like it does on hotel's website. Very conveniently located just off a main shopping street and very near old town and only 5 minutes walk from main bus and train station. 10 -15 minute walk to Cathedral and restaurant area. Were slightly concerned booking hotel as others had mentioned back alley to hotel and needles etc. We did not find this at all. Hotel down side street off a main shopping street. Palma feels very safe place to walk around at night, lots of different types of police around. Food we had in hotel was excellent, fresh pasta dish, probably best pasta every had. Didn't have breakfast as seemed very expensive, used cafes instead. Half bottle of cava arrived in room on husband's birthday which was nice surprise. Certainly would return to hotel and recommend for a short break.

Palma was a great place for a very relaxing city break. Take the bus no.1 from airport, it is so easy to find as others have said. Exit door 4 and cross road by taxi rank, buses run every 15 minutes and only cost 1.85 euro. Get off at Plaza Espana, sign inside bus tells you where you are so no hazzles (20 minute journey). Hotel then 5 minutes walk. Took only one hour from plane landing to checking into hotel.

Suggestions of things we did. Old town easy to walk around lots of cafes and restaurants. We got city tour bus from Plaza Espana stop, costs 13 euro, not as interesting as buses in Rome, but does give bearings (did first day) and also takes you up to castle. Only 2.10 euro to go inside and get great views of city.

Bon Lloc vegetarian restaurant, Carrer Sant Feliu which is off Passeig des Born, has great value 4 course set lunch with water for 13 euros. Food very good, get there by 1.30 as fills up quickly. Lots of tapas bars down Carrer dels Apuntadors (again off Passeig des Born) and round La Llotja.

We took the train (10.10 am) to Soller and tram to Port Soller and then got express bus (211) back. Hotel will print off timetables for you. Train leaves from Plaza Espana (not main station) and costs 9 euro one way to Soller. Fun to get and lovely scenery over mountains. Tram from Soller to Port Soller costs 3 euros and coincide with train arrivals and run every 30 mins as well. Port Soller was lovely, very picturesque and sandy beach. The express bus (211) costs only 2.75 euros back and takes 45 minutes. Bus stop is up side street (sorry don't know name) opposite the public toilets on the front road. Stop outside church. Buses air conditioned and very cheap and comfortable and seemed to run to time.

Bus station at Plaza Espana with buses going all over the island. Would definitely return and explore other places as so easy.

“An Oasis of Calm”

Hotel Mision de San Miguel

14 Apr 2008

We chose this small hotel for a 3 night break following positive reviews on TripAdvisor and were not dissappointed. Its so nice to be right in the centre of town only a few minutes walk from the Plaza d'Espana yet to be in such a quiet location. The room was very elegant, the beds comfortable and the bathroom very modern. The room temperature was just a little hot for comfort at night as the airconditioning was not adjustable between winter and summer settings and was better left off. Otherwise it was a good nights sleep with no noise to speak of.

The hotel staff were very friendly and helpful and worked seamlessly between the attractive bar in reception and the restaurant downstairs. We eat in the restaurant one evening and had an exceptional meal although there was not a great deal of ambience as we were eating alone for most of the meal. Finding restaurants near the hotel is very difficult unless you just want tapas and I felt that the hotel could do more to promote its own restaurant to guests because of this. Most restaurants in Palma do not open before 8pm and the best selection we found in the sidestreets at the bottom end of the Paseo del Borne.

Once again location is the hotel's trump card as buses to everywhere leave from the Plaza Espana as well as the train to Soller which is a must do! We would thoroughly recommend it to anyone wanting a quiet, elegant town hotel rather than a lively beach/tourist hotel.

“Fantastic small hotel in the centre of Palma”

I'd been searching for a while for a hotel in the centre of Palma to surprise my Mum for her birthday. I read the reviews on Trip Advisor and at the time it was voted No 1, so thought I'd give it a go.

We absolutely loved it. Took us a while to find it in our little Smart car that we hired for the four days, but eventually we did and it had parking in the basement, which was perfect for our little car, but I wouldn't have liked to park something larger!

The service was excellent, the staff couldn't be faulted.

The location couldn't have been better, we walked everywhere in the city, its down a little alley way from a shopping street, and had our car parked safely under the hotel for when we wanted to tour Mallorca.

Food was excellent, breakfast was great, as was the lunch which was really high quality and very varied. In fact a good sign was the number of business types who came in for lunch in the courtyard. We ate elsewhere for dinner so I can't comment. They served a small selection of tapas in the evenings which was nice with a pre-dinner drink! And on arrival we were offered a free glass of wine or drink, a great start!

Bedroom was nice too, contemporary design, wooden floors, nice bathrooms, good beds. They didn't provide toiletries which is a bit unusual but is good in the present environmental climate when its usually just a waste anyway.

All in all an excellent stay and we would definitely return again and would recommend it as a convenient place to stay.

Couldn't think of a downside.
