“Neer again”

We arrived on the Saturday and the hotel seemed okay but could do with a little bit of an upgrade. Very quiet for the first two days, just as it had been advertised, then Monday arrived along with lots of SAGA holiday makers. The hotel seems to be oblivious to their other guests onces they arrive, and all entertainment is caterd for them, they were all inclusive and were at the bar from 10am till midnight, made me and my husband look like old foggies sitting with a cup of tea after breakfast. We had upgraded to all inclusive on arrival at hotel, but a small tip, if you want service with a smile from the bar staff, make sure they see you put a tip in their tip jar or you will just be grunted at and made to feel like a second class citizen. Food was lovely in the restaraunt but again the SAGA brigade were in first hogging all the seats and service from the waiting staff. We were usually finished our first course before we were offered drinks. Es Castell itself was a lovely little town, quiet and if you explore there are a few british pubs, service was a lot better. Best entertainment is down at Dinkums bar at the harbour, look out for Peter, especially when the glass boat arrives at 2.30pm for 3pm, you can't miss him with his white hat and bell, you will know what I mean when you see him. I wouldn't recommend this hotel for anyone under the ager of 65, you will be bored in no time.

Very clean and very good food. Spoilt by not enough restaurant staff. No one to take luggage to room (I'm in a wheelchair). No one to remove matresses from sunloungers if it rains. Everyone got wet bums from sitting on one unknowingly! No one to serve drinks around pool. Beware of extra charge for sea views on arrival.

Upon arrival we were told we could not get access into our room till 2pm and we had been up all night travelling. When we were showed our room it was facing a derelict site no pool or sea view at all. We were moved the following day which by that time we had used 2 days of our holiday. The pool area glasses were left around for days on end, never cleaned at all. It rained and all the sun beds were left out and the cushions got soaked so you couldnt sit on them the following day. Also when it rained the chairs in the outside entertainment area got wet as they were never brought in or stacked. The entertainment was always foreign no English whatsoever. When in the restaurant you had to drink whatever was on the wine menu as because the bar was closed you were unable to get any other drink so i ended up drinking coke every evening as i dont like wine.
The food was average but no coffee after dinner.
I would not reccomend it or go again.

“Exceptional in unexpected ways - most of them good!”

The staff were unfailingly enthusiastic, friendly and keen to help.

The rooms that overlook the road at the side of the Hotel are large but have a very poor view. If you have a view of a not-quite-started building site then ask at reception for a better view of pool or sea. Cheaper to upgrade at the hotel rather than pay your travel company.

We spent two weeks at the Hamilton in peak August season and found the hotel comfortable and clean with an excellent selection of food at breakfast and dinner. The staff were unfailingly enthusiastic, friendly and keen to help. We felt this was a real 'Spanish' hotel with most of our fellow guests seemingly from Barcelona. Since the majority of guests appeared to have their own or rented cars they were out during the day and this left the pool almost empty. Most people around the pool had small children somewhere in their party.

Evening entertainment was adequate (we usually went out to a bar after dinner and returned during the interval) and on occasion we enjoyed seeing people of all ages dancing to old Spanish tunes.

We had an unfortunate experience that caused us to test the hotel in unexpected ways. One of our party fainted, fell and needed the attention of a doctor. The reception staff were superb, calling an excellent English speaking doctor, contacting our tour rep, translating on our behalf for the medical insurance etc. The doctor arrived within 15 minutes and the ambulance arrived 15 minutes later. The next evening (the worst being over) we returned from dinner to find a bottle of Spanish Champagne cooling in an ice bucket and a card from the staff wishing "get well soon".

The Karting advertised on the Menorca map is very expensive (about 15 quid for 10 minutes per person) and can be slightly dangerous if you don't pay attention to the pre-run advice (accelerator is much more powerful than the brake). Still, it's not often busy. If you take a taxi it might be better to ask it to stay rather than try to find another one 20 minutes later.

Gary

P.S.
For those who need their internet fix on holiday - the Hotel has no public wi-fi internet access and the internet terminals in reception are extremely expensive. If you have a wireless laptop you can connect to mo.net2 from your balcony and sign up for a week at around 20 euros. Connection quality is highly variable but enabled me to keep up with email and the occasional episode of the Archers! There's a simple hack to get free access to the terminals in reception if you can navigate to a PDF file via the screen saver.

Just returned from this hotel and had a great holiday.

This was our first time to Minorca and we were very impressed.

We opted to stay in Es Castell as it was the old part of the island and use it as a base and explore the rest of the island.
Es Castell is a typical Spanish old town very quaint narrow streets and a harbour with restaurants and was very picturesque and welcoming.

The Hamilton sits on the entrance to the port of Mahon and has stunning views across and up river. We paid a supplement for a sea view which is a must and the views were stunning. Right in front of our room on the river was boating activity all day long ranging from cruise liners to sailing boats.

The Hamilton itself for a three star hotel was very good value and we upgraded whilst there for a small fee to all inclusive.

The food standard was good with full English breakfast and the evening meal was a buffet with a particularly good salad counter.

All the staff were very friendly and helpful and the rooms were kept very clean.

We explored mornings in the car driving on very good well marked roads and found a beach in the afternoon to relax for a couple of hours.

The highlight was a trip to Fornells where we hired a boat and went up the river and to a beach un accessible by car.

Take a trip one evening into Mahon and you can look at the boats moored along the marina that have been passing by the hotel all day what an eye opener and pleasant way to spend an evening sat on a pavement bar with a cool beer seeing how the other half live.

We found the hotel very good and Minorca a very pleasant island if you are not fussy about being by a beach use the Hamilton for a base and go out and explore make sure you pay the supplement for a sea view though.

We booked it all independently and it was a lot cheaper and very simple go and enjoy and have a nice holiday
