Menorca:
Very beautiful island with lots of places to visit within easy reach as the island is relatively small, approx 35miles wide. The island has lots of history if you are interested in that kind of thing but if you love beaches etc then this place has some of the best in the med.
For anyone looking for a clubbing destination then avoid menorca because it is a more tranquil, laid-back destination not an ibiza etc.
Cuitadela:
This place is within 15minutes bus ride from the binimar, there are various bus stop around which is very easy to use as the buses are always on time and they are basically coaches (very plush).
Its a very well preserved old capital of the country with a nice vibe. Has history dating back to roman times (around 1000years)
Particually nice at night when the harbour is lit up. Some excellent restaurants there if you are self catering and also like to mention the little jazz club called "sa clau" if you fancy a cocktail or three.
I could go on and on about this place so make sure you dont miss it. Bus ride is 1.40 EUROS, Per person. Runs up til 11.30pm.
Binimar:
The bit you were looking for right?
Well this place has its good points and some bad points.
Good Points:
ROOMS: are very well kept clean resort with pleasant staff. The rooms are basic but again clean and tidy. If you are a couple then you will have separate beds as they give you two singles next to each other. The beds are changed 5 out of 7days and towels also.
THE FOOD: is very nice if you go half board or all-inclusive, each night you have varying things to choose from, chicken, meats, fish, salads, pasta. Although the restaurant feels a little tight when busy. Also have a la tasca restaurant on site however i didnt eat there being all inclusive but it looked okay.
LOCAL: If you like to venture out locally you will find plenty of places to eat and drink with tribute acts dotted around entertainment wise.
EXCURSIONS: The trips were excellent, we visited mount torro (panoramic views of island), Mahon, A stallion show, cheese factory, gin distillery, cala galdana, fornells harbour, glass bottom boat trip around mahon etc etc etc. About 40EUROS Per person per trip. Good value for money for what you get.
Bad Points:
THE ENTERTAINMENT - If you are not five years old then the entertainment will not "entertain" you. The reps were consistantly annoying and extremely amatuer. To the point that they disturb you whilst you are relaxing and pratically force you to put money into there pot to gunge themself with old food. They even specify the amount to give (€5) (how bloomin cheeky i thought). That was a muppit called ricky by the way if you do go here.
THE BEACH: Not really beach so dont be fooled by travel agents telling you so. Its a bit of sand by some rocks to put it simply.
THE APARTMENT DOOR: The keycard stopped working as experienced by others. Had to go to reception who instead of apologising, gave us a lecture on how to take care of the card. Lucky i was on holiday otherwise she would of had an ear full.
Also the doors are weak and could easily be broken into without much force at all. DONT LEAVE ANYTHING VALUABLE INDOORS.
THE SUPERMARKET: Extortionate prices with miserable staff to sum it up. £3 for a loaf of bread, £1.25 for a normal bag of crisps, just to give you an idea.
THE KIDS: Want to relax by the pool and have a drink? forget it!
Put your music on unless you like the sound of crying kids every 5seconds. I appreciate this is a family resort but i have been to other family resorts where it is a lot better run for children cutting out a lot of tantrums on display. In the evening some of the unruly kids would run around with other parents kids, run with pool cues and one woman left her baby on the coach whilst on a day trip with us and waited 10mins to mention it. (i rest my case)
PACKED LUNCH: Hahaha. This was a joke. If you go on an excursion you order a packed lunch (all inclusive members) 24 hours in advance. We picked ours up the morning of our trip to find the following items...
Two cans of tuna with no means of opening.
4 butter and 4 marmelade. (for what??)
a small bottle of water between two people.
a lemon
an orange
2 muffins (about the only thing worth eating).
No bread or nothing to make sandwiches with etc.
Needless to say we ended up buying lunch as this wouldnt keep a squiral alive let alone two grown adults.
As you can see a very mixed bag from this holiday. Overall i would say good value for money (280 all inc with insurance) due to the food and trips we packed in. However the binimar is maybe not the best "resort" due to the reasons above.
I hope this hasnt put anyone coming to the island because i would live here if possible but the binimar is certainly about right as 2* place with potential to be better should they address some of the issues that many people comment on all the time.
Happy holidays :-)
