Just as you are doing now we read the previous reviews on La Qunta before we decided to book. To be honest some of the comments about the food quality planted seeds of doubt because the Thomas Cook booking option was half board rather than our usual bed and breakfast preferance. We decided that the restaurants on the Marina would provide a fall back position if needed.
They were not needed!!
This hotel is an absolute gem. From the minute we checked in until we reluctantly checked out 14 days later we enjoyed a superb rapport with all the staff from the manager to the maintenance men who greet you every morning with a cheery "Hola" as you pass by. And none of it is false. You really feel that everyone who works there takes pride in their job at whatever level and that you, as the guest, deserve the best that they can give you. The standard of cleanliness throughout the hotel is second to none. Your room will be cleaned at least once a day. If you have used towels between the first room service and the evening turn down service then you return from your night out to new towels. A minor point but it's just one of the many small touches that add up to an exceptional level of sevice.
Other positives are the buffet breakfast, dinner menu and the poolside arrangements. Reading some of the previous breakfast comments like "My tea wasn't as warm as I would have liked." Get over yourself! If you had pointed this out to one of the staff it would have been sorted out straight away.Evening meal? The previous reviews document this pretty accurately but we always found the choice and standard to be more than acceptable. And yes, we have travelled fairly extensively and no - we are not easily pleased! Leisure wise there is no annexing the sunbeds here, but we found that even in the middle of the season in August there was never a problem finding a prime location to relax beside the large (but sometimes chilly) pool. And there is always a smiling member of staff to deliver your midday beer and complimentary crisps!
I will admit that the Fabian Barthez lookalike in the restaurant isn't the cheeriest chappy on the planet. But Jose, Vanessa, Amy, Julien and everyone else too numerous to mention will give you a smiling, efficient but unobtrusive service every night. A hint - the staff all wear name badges. Call them by their names, smile, ask about the menu choices. You will be pleasantly surprised by the willingness to help. From the dining room move through to the lounge and enjoy the company of Paco the bar manager and his staff. My opinion is that the hotel could optimise the entertainment potential much better, but the target audience is most definately the 35+ seasoned holidaymaker who just wants a chilled evening. Over the 14 days we had flamenco, the mediterranean staple of keyboards and vocals, and a surprisingly entertaining magic show. OK it's not Las Vegas but it rounds off the evening in a mellow way. If you want karaoke, quiz nights, bingo, eat and drink until you explode offers, hair braiding, henna tattoos, kids entertainment, a quick chorus of "Una Paloma Blanca" then head to the Marina where there are also some decent Italian and Chinese eating places available.
But if you are looking for a mellow, grown up holiday with an exceptional level of service then push the "Confirm Booking" button on La Quinta. In my opinion only of course!
