Miramar Hotel Tenerife Island

2 Mar 2008

We decided on a little bit of winter sun the travel agent suggested the Miramar Hotel in Tenerife, looked at the trip advisor and booked our holiday as we had never visited the island. First impressions of the hotel were very nice but when we opened the door of our room 412 found the decor and furniture to be very shabby also a small badly shaped bathroom, but the beds and linen were very clean and we thought we would only be changing and sleeping in the room however, when we opened the balcony door what a view it was beautiful, overlooking the pool area and mountain in the distance. There is no fridge, hairdryer or toiletries within the room but you can borrow dryer from reception, do not know what you would do for cold drinks in the height of summer you would have to keep buying them at the bar as there would not be anywhere to store them in the room.

The dining room is bright and clean, the food is very well presented with a great salad bar, plane fare but I did not see anyone leaving their meal, infact it was the opposite. We were half board but we could have gone in for lunch and no one would have noticed as you had to find your own table there was no waiter showing you to your seat or signing you in, sometimes we had to share a table with other holiday makers but that did not bother us, we discovered during this time that there was a range of different nationalities within the hotel and they came back on a regular basis, sometimes staying for up to 8 weeks at a time. The hotel was certainly very busy and once the bar staff and waiters became familiar with you they were excellent. Most of the residents seemed to go into town at night and did not frequent the bar within the hotel which was a pity especially when the entertainer was on he was very good.

The age group seemed to be older at this time of year throughout the island and although there were plenty of swing parks it would be quite a treck up and down the hill with small children in the height of summer. There is a mini-bus to take you down to the town but this finished quite early and the taxi fare is about 4 euros. There are stairs down through the park and in other areas they are very steep and crumbling, quite dangerous if you did not watch your step, but the pavement down to town is fine.

I was very impressed with the surrounding areas and kept coming across more and more quaint wee squares, has a very spanish feel, and people were lovely, eating lunch too was great with plenty of open restaurant/bars to people watch, no high pressure selling. Zoo was marvellous and there is an area at the front with about 6 different pools it is 3 euros entrance but that allows you all day with places within to buy food and drink, great for children. The boat trip arranged through the rep was terrific and crew were great, quite a long bus journey to get there but well worth it.

On the whole loved my holiday, Miramar was a good hotel but do not expect any more than 3 star you would be disappointed.

“Relaxing atmosphere”

Miramar Hotel Tenerife Island

1 Mar 2008

Just come back from a weeks stay at this Hotel. Could not fault it except for some of the staff in the Dining room, they needed to learn how to smile. There were two young waiters one named "Ivor" who were very helpful and friendly. The Reception staff were also very helpful. The Hotel including rooms were clean and tidy. The food was basic but plentiful. A couple of microwaves would be beneficial as sometimes the food could have be hotter. The Hotel was set in lovely gardens and found it to be very pleasant and relaxing. This Hotel is not for the people with walking difficulties as there are 252 steps leading down to the Town Centre or a winding Road. The Hotel does have a Courtesy Bus but we did not use it. Also there are plenty of Taxis at reasonable rates. Hope Sandra & Don enjoyed the rest of their holiday and many thanks to Philip and Mal for the laughs they gave us. We would stay there again.

“Excellent Value For Money”

Miramar Hotel Tenerife Island

My husband and I have recently returned from a week's break at this hotel. The room was large the beds comfortable and very clean. The room does not have a hairdryer but one can be borrowed from reception. Meals were buffet style. There was always a choice at night of a fish or meat dish and vegetables and potatoes and a very good choice of salad dishes. The reception staff were friendly and helpful. The pool area and grounds were well maintained and the views were stunning. The majority of holiday makers were middle aged but I think it would be suitable for all ages as there is a small area with swings, a slide and a roundabout plus table tennis tables and crazy golf. The hotel is situated about 10 to 15 minutes from the town but it is all down hill. There is a shuttle bus from the hotel for those who cannot or do not feel able to walk but taxis are cheap and it only costs 3 euros from the town back to the hotel. I would certainly recommend this hotel as a good three star and excellent value for money and if I went back to Tenerife I wouldnt hesitate to stay there again.

“Better every time”

My wife and I first visted the Miramar in Dec 06 and 6 months later returned for another week in June. We like it so much we came back for our Christmas holiday last Dec too.

Our room in the main part of the hotel was on the 9th floor this time with great views from the balcony. Big room, clean, comfortable beds as in the previous visits. Room cleaned daily and the hotel is nice an quiet without too much noise coming from other guests.

We were on half board and were so pleased that the food hadn't changed. Great selection of salads and fruit as well as decent buffet meals with plenty variety of meat, fish, chicken and all very good quality and well prepared. Can't understand any complaints in other reviews about food as even a couple of self confessed fussy eaters we met said they liked the food.

The hotel in general was clean and the grounds were very well kept and looked even nicer than our last visit. As for grumpy or unfriendly staff I can only imagine other reviewers met them on a bad day as we again found them really helpful and pleasant.

Miramar is on the hill overlooking the town (15 minutes walk) and the steps down into the centre are challenging (especially on the way back) but you can always follow the road instead which is longer but easier on the legs or just spend 3 euros on a taxi (we didn't). There is free hotel minibus to the centre of town running every hour or so Mon-Fri. We liked the exercise and walked everywhere.

We're already planning to come back in June this year!

“Oh dear”

Miramar Hotel Tenerife Island

We have just returned from two weeks at the Hotel Miramar, unfortunately we didn't really find it a pleasant experience.
Good things - location not too bad nice view with nice garden/pool area. Luckily there were few young children around so it was fairly quite and peaceful. Majority of clients appear to be pensioners.
Bad things - the hotel seems to be stuck in the seventies in about every aspect:
Food - lacked appeal and was not very appetising, very little choice for vegetarian.
Cleanliness - the whole place needs cleaning properly.
Staff - throughout the whole two weeks only one staff member was even remotely friendly.
Decor - very very seventies, old, dated and very uninsipred.
Overall we were very disappointed with hotel and would certainly not be making a return visit.
