The property is ideally located in a nice and quiet residential area of Puerto de la Cruz, away from the noise of traffic and nightlife. It is a straightforward 10 to 15 minute walk into the downtown area, and a short stroll to the beach. The popular Loro Parque is also a pleasant 15 minute walk along the seaside promenade. The hotel has an expensive private car park, but we never had a problem finding space to park in the streets nearby for free. We felt the whole area was safe, even late at night.
From outside the hotel looks rather uninspiring, but once inside it is a different story altogether. Our room was bright and spacious, nicely but simply decorated, with furniture in good condition if hardly trendy, lots of storage room, an empty mini-bar to store your own drinks, and a small TV set with plenty of local and satellite channels. Use of the safe in the room costs extra though, which we thought was a bit of a cheek. We were on the second floor with a small balcony offering a frontal sea view in the distance. We could have not asked for more.
The bathroom was a fairly decent size, very well appointed, with a full-length bathtub, a hairdryer, a couple of bathrobes and the usual free toiletries. The toilet and the bidet were in a separate room with access through a sliding door in the bathroom. The whole place was spotless.
We were on a half board basis, and food was excellent. Buffet breakfast was served in two restaurants, offering pretty much the same, while dinner was served in four different restaurants: one buffet restaurant, plus three thematic restaurants: Canarian, Argentinean and Italian. We stuck with the buffet, as we were really impressed by the quality, quantity and variety of the food on offer. A couple of chefs were always available to cook fresh food right in front of you. We never felt we had to dine out.
Service was generally good, although at times the restaurants felt slightly understaffed. We did not make use of the other hotel facilities though, as we spent most of our time outdoors, driving around the island. Still, the pool area seemed perfectly adequate, with a big free-form swimming pool, a smaller pool for children, and plenty of cushioned loungers and parasols for everyone.
A piece of warning though: for some reason or other the hotel seems particularly popular with older guests, most of them British OAPs booked through SAGA. This did not bother us at all. In fact we preferred the company of elderly people to a hotel packed with the lager louts Tenerife seems to be so infamous for. However, sometimes, just sometimes, the whole place felt a bit like a geriatric residence.
