“Nice Hotel”

Hotel Spa Villalba

28 Mar 2008

The hotel is situated outside Vilaflor, a pretty village with little going on.
The rooms in the hotel are spacious with a large bathroom and kept very clean. Beds are firm. Good sized balconies, but ones at front of hotel, which we had, are opposite a large open water tank and views of the town football stadium as well as the the pine covered hills. The back of the hotel had much nicer views.
The majority of guests are German walkers, with some British and Spanish guests, so a nice mix. One thing to note is that we booked half board. The evening meal is ok, but consists of 3 courses with either/or choice, and two out of three nights the menu was only printed in German, but the Spanish restaurant manager translated for us. We expected a greater choice and higher standard for a 4 star hotel. The A La Carte menu looked quite expensive. Breakfast was the usual buffet.
The spa was very quiet until late afternoon as most guests were out walking during the day, and even then was not over busy.
The staff were friendly and helpful. Overall a pleasant stay but would probably not revisit.

“Lovely Hotel”

Hotel Spa Villalba

15 Jan 2008

I stayed at this hotel for a long weekend for my birthday and it was a lovely place that I really couldn't fault.
The hotel is beautifully decorated, has a lovely spa, and the rooms are large with lovely bathrooms. The place is spotlessly clean and quite stylish.
We were looking for a nice boutique style hotel away from the hustle and bustle and this seemed the only choice on the island - all the other boutique properties are in Garrachio which is delightful but very far indeed from the action of the South and from the Northern Capital of Santa Cruz.
This hotel is a 20 minute drive up the volcano from the south but worth it for the tranquility - although I would say that if you want a beach holiday it is too far to drive up and down every day. Luckily we were able to do a variety of things including go up Mount Teide, visit the capital and a few other towns as well as fit in a couple of beach trips.
I would definitely recommend this hotel for getting away from it all, and for a romantic weekend as the spa is of a high standard, and the website and info available doesn't do it justice.
I did not find anything to do in the local town, although there is a recommended restaurant there it was closed when we went, so be sure you are happy to drive for dinner, and be in a remote location.

“Wonderful Spa Hotel”

Hotel Spa Villalba

4 Sep 2007

This was our second stay at the Hotel Villalba, and it is probably one of our favourite hotels in the world! The hotel is situated amongst the pine trees above the village of Vilaflor, and it is an easy walk down into the village. There are also a number of walks in the area, starting from the hotel. The setting is superb, the bedrooms luxurious and large, and we had rooms with wonderful balconies. The spa, which can be reached either through stairs from Reception or by taking the lift from the first floor bedroom corridor (useful if you are walking around in the towelling robe you are provided with), is very under-utilised most of the time. With a fantastic indoor/outdoor swimming pool with jacuzzi jets, warm jacuzzi, wet and dry saunas, steam room and relaxation room, you can easily spend all day in the spa. There are hot drinks available, and seats inside and outside around the pool. Massage is available at an additional cost.

Drinks can be served on the patio, or in the lounge where the fire is lit in the evening and where there are a number of comfortable chairs and sofas.

There are only two comments I would make. The first is that they need to change the menu in the restaurant more often. We were staying 7 days on each occasion during which time the menu remained unchanged. The food is very good, but we had exhausted the choices very quickly which meant we needed to walk down to the village for dinner on a couple of occasions, just to have a change. The second point is that they really need to have prices available earlier in the year. On both visits we booked directly with the hotel and bought flights independently, and we like to book up well in advance. We struggled to get a price from them until about three months before the start of our holiday, which is a worry when you've already paid for flights and are unsure about having any accommodation.

Having said this, we have booked to return again with friends, and are very much looking forward to it. One final point - the photographs on the hotel website don't do it justice, in my view.
