We had an excellent week at this apartment, which is a new addition to the Sensation Apartments portfolio.
We took a taxi from Barcelona airport (approx €30) to the nearby reception (see http://sensation-apartments.com/en) where the helpful receptionist gave us keys and directions (very easy to find) and pointed us to the late-night supermarket for emergency rations.
It is a 10 minute walk (gradual hill) up to Urban Style. Glad we had luggage with wheels!
Considering we arrived at 9.30pm on a Saturday evening, the streets were relatively quiet (see below) and it felt safe (unlike turning up in an unknown part of London).
The Reception/check-in building is around the corner from Sagrada Familia (on the metro line L5 and L2).
Urban Style is on the same road as Sagrada Familia, but about 10 minutes walk up the hill.
The area is surprisingly quiet for an inner city/tourist area. Nice to see lots of locals walking around (especially lots of elderly, and children) which helps to make the area feel safe.
The supermarket on the corner of Carrer de la Marina / Carrer del Rossello has a good selection of fresh food (milk, bread, meat, eggs etc) and all the usual supermarket bits. A handy stop-off on the way back from daily excursions. It stays open late.
However, there is also a larger supermarket round the corner from Urban Sensation (closes mid-evening) which has a v. good range of fresh food, beer, wine etc and is less than 2 minutes from your doorstep.
Entry to the building is through a simple door in the street into a hallway. A small lift is available. There are only a few apartments. Ours was at the back of the building, overlooking the courtyard which is shared with surrounding buildings.
Everything was new and clean. Nice design feature - second bedroom is an "alcove" off the main hall, with floor-to-ceiling sliding door. Our son thought this was really neat.
The main bedroom and the sitting room have tall openable windows onto narrow balconies; both windows have vertical blinds/sunshades. The rooms have heating/air-con (we didn't use either).
Comfy bed, plenty of storage space. TV, DVD player and free wifi (very handy).
Bathroom - nicely designed but the shower fitting is a bit impractical (in the upright position, water squirted all over the floor), so that needs to be addressed to avoid spoiling the tiles/flooring. Ditto taps on the sink, which spit a bit. Luckily, lots of towels were supplied.
Kitchen - large fridge and freezer, good oven/hob, dishwasher and also a washing machine (we didn't use it). Washing up liquid, dishwasher tablets, cloths, bin bags all supplied (thanks). Plenty of storage space and good design.
A few "teething" issues in the kitchen: please supply plastic/non-scratch utensils or your nice new non-stick frying pans will be ruined! Oven glove would be handy; a tea-towel for drying up would be a good addition (we'd taken one anyway). There is no draining board around the sink area, so wet plates/glasses slide around on the polished surface (luckily we avoided breakages). No wine glasses - a serious omission! Six of each item so could only ever run the dishwasher half full.
The electricity for the apartment is controlled by an entry key, which you take with you when you leave the building - an excellent energy-saving idea, but don't expect your washing/dish-washing to get done while you're out all day!
Recycling point is in the street outside (glass, plastics, paper/card, organic, general).
Quality of service:
We made several trips to "reception" - they booked us tickets for Sagrada Familia (so we beat the queues) and also for FC Barcelona Tour (v. good for kids/dads and even the mum on this trip had a good day out there!). They also gave good advice about local facilities AND we borrowed a couple of DVDs too. Overall 10/10 - thanks to all of you.
Other handy info:
Instead of getting off at Sagrada Familia metro, stay on one more stop to Sant Pau dos de Maig which is at the top of Av. de Gaudi (look at the Gaudi Hospital) and walk along Carrer de la Industria instead (flatter!). Av. de Gaudi has lots of good bars, cafes and restaurants too.
