hmmm, it was ok. i did not feel that it was a hostal because i felt i was at a hotel. we had a private room, with a bath and toilet. it was hardly hostel like so it was a great deal. It was clean, spacious, great location, and decorated pleasantly.
However, it was loud and with noise from outside and from other rooms. not really a problem unless you are a ligth sleeper.
so overall, great find but noisy.

Pros: clean (tiny bit of mold in the bathroom), fantastic location (just off Las Ramblas so you will get sleep and 1/2 a block from the metro), safe, lockers available

Cons: lacks character, small but adequate for travelers who aren't spending much time in their room

If you are looking for great value I highly recommend it.

I reserved a room for 3 nights at the Hostal Opera. When I entered the room, the air conditioning didn't work, even when I turned on the switch, and it was a HOT 33 degrees day. They told me they would fix it, but when I later returned to the room, it was the same. Eventually I slept somewhere else, and they had the nerve to charge me for 1 night, even though I didn't get what I paid for. In conclusion, I WILL NEVER GO BACK THERE NOR RECOMMEND THIS PLACE TO ANYONE. I went to Mare Nostrum which is next door and had a great time.

We were particularly impressed with how friendly and helpful the staff were, especially after our airline lost some of our baggage! The hotel was clean and comfortable, we didn't experience noise problems but someone did bang on our wall because we were using a hairdryer late at night. Perhaps we were the noisy neighbours???
