I recently went to Barcelona for three days with my husband and 8 month old son. I spent hours researching hotels. My main objectives in finding a hotel were to find a hotel with a great location (we wanted to be right off Las Ramblas) and a hot buffet breakfast. Hotel Nouvel met these objectives and was in our price range. The hotel is right off Las Ramblas and is only a 2 minute walk from the Metro station Catalunya. The staff was super friendly and tried to be very helpful with any questions we had. They all spoke great English as well. We were in a double twin room, which basically is two twin beds pushed together. This was great because I originally wanted a room with a double bed (so I could sleep in the same bed as my husband), but a crib could not fit into that room. The crib we requested (9 euros/day to rent) fit wonderfully in our room and we still had alot of room to get around. I peeked into a room with a double bed a maid was cleaning one day while walking down the hall, and it looked alot smaller than our room. The bathroom was very nice. The counter space was big enough to fit all our toiletries. There was great water pressure in the shower and sink. Although beware that its really hard to take a shower without getting the bathroom floor wet. There is alot of pressure and the way the shower head is situated, its hard to keep some of the water from going outside the tub. Not a big deal. The room was very clean as was the bathroom. The closet and drawer space was also very adequate. We had a small balcony overlooking a small alley. The breakfast was wonderful for me and my son. My husband wasn't too keen on it, but he is an eggs and bacon guy. There were eggs (kinda watery) something that looked like hotdogs and white beans for the hot part of the breakfast. Then there was toast, croissants, corn flakes cereal, sugar puffs cereal, yogurt and fruit. They had butter and two types of jam. There was also sliced meat and cheese. The drink selection consisted of orange juice, cold milk, coffee, coffee with milk, water and an assortment of teas. There is a pleasant sitting area and two vending machines. One sells hot drinks (coffee, etc.), and the other sells soda (no diet), water and beer. There is an elevator as well. Right outside the hotel you will find an array of shops, bakeries and restaurants. Then once you get to Las Ramblas, you can find anything you want. My only complaint would be that the walls are quite thin. I don't consider myself to be a hard or light sleeper, just average. I was never woken up by anyone, but before falling asleep I could hear people in the halls and in other rooms talking. It didn't bother me, my son and my husband; but if you are an extremely light sleeper, it might bother you. I can see our family staying here again. The location is unbeatable and the price is right.
