My husband and I stayed at the Advance Hotel, Barcelona for 4 nights in June.It is in a very good location, about 5-10 minutes stroll to Place Catalunya and Las Ramblas. We were given a room at the back of the hotel, on the 1st floor-room 108. It was an adequate size, clean, bright with nice bed linen and good quality towels. There was a lot of wardrobe space with drawers, a mini-fridge and a safe. The ensuite was modern, a good size with a hot, powerful shower, a large mirror and magnifying shaving mirror and a huge shelving area.We were delighted that our room was one of only 4 with a large terrace, a sunlounger, a table and 2 sun chairs. The weather was fantastically warm so we were able to return to the hotel late afternoon and relax here with a beer and the odd glass of wine-brilliant! We didn't eat at the hotel so we can't comment on the food.
There are a variety of bars close to the hotel, in particular an inexpensive local bar on the corner right next to the hotel (turn right outside the hotel)- very generous bacardi and brandy! We ate lovely breakfasts,English and Continental every morning at a bar/restaurant 'Asador de Galicia 3' on the same road as the hotel-on Carrer de Sepulveda (turn right outside the hotel, cross the road and it is located at a busy junction).Breakfasts between 5 - 7 euros, half the price of the hotel.
The hotel staff were very pleasant and helpful. They gave us very useful information on local restaurants and places to visit. One little niggle was that although the hotel provides one daily complimentary copy of the Times newspaper in the reception area for guest use, we were unable to read it at all during our stay due to guests removing it and not returning it. Perhaps a notice to guests reminding them not to remove the newspapers from reception would be beneficial to all!
The hotel is ideally situated for access both to and from the airport. Apart from the nearby metro stations, there are Aerobuses which run frequently to bus stops close to the hotel.
We took advantage of the 2 day city bus tour which enabled us to enjoy the highlights of Barcelona. These buses commence their journey in Place Catalunya although there are many stops along the way, allowing tourists to hop on and off- a fabulous way to see the city!
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the hotel Advance and although it is not cheap, would certainly recommend it to others.
