This is a very interesting museum and worth a look if you can drag yourself away from the pubs, clubs and beaches.
It is the house of a fairly wealthy family of winemakers. The house and its contents have been kept as they were in the 1800s so it really is quite a fascinating time capsule into life in those times.
The house is full of antiques naturally and they are really quite beautiful. The rooms are lovely and the architecture very interesting.
On the second floor is a collection of dolls and doll houses and furniture and other toys. Obviously collected by the lady of the house, it is a very large collection and most of the dolls are from the mid 1800s providing a very rare view of life from these times. I've never really seen anything like it anywhere else. It must be worth a fortune, if you like that sort of thing.
Also, in the cellar, there is all the winemaking equipment. Apparently this is no longer part of the tour but because it was mentioned on the brochure and I have an interest in wine, we kinda insisted on having a look and they let us in there.
You can buy a three museum ticket which makes each museum a little cheaper. One of the others is Museu Cau Ferrat but it is still closed after more than two years. I think it is now due to open in 2013 however a small selection of that collection is in another location up near the cathedral and is worth looking at too. There are a couple of very good El Grecos in it as well as a couple of small Picassos and quite a few others from lesser known artists. The third museum is a modern gallery which was showing an interesting collection when we were there. A day of culture made a nice change from the beach. Recommended.
