“Basic room but worth it for the pool”

Emperador Hotel Madrid

Stayed for 4 nights and had a pleasant experience. The room was clean but small and I wouldn't consider it 4* standard. Had a view of a brick wall and as the room was joined to another we could hear voices/TV through the wooden door. Toiletries provided weren't great (would have liked some conditioner!) there is a hairdryer. There is a safe. The room was cleaned each day.

However the location was excellent and the swmming pool area was very nice with good views- towels provided.

I found the staff helpful. The breakfast was good with a large selection.

It cost 22 euro for taxi ride to airport.

My wife and I were in this hotel a few weeks ago.
We booked the 922 room, a club romm with one queen size bed and a balcony.
We went to the club bar to drink some beverages free of charge.
The bar tender was a very funny a kind guy.
On the roof there is a beautiful swimming pool, not large but very clean.
People in the frot desk was very kind and quick.

“Perfectly located hotel”

Emperador Hotel Madrid

My husband and I stayed at the Emperador hotel for 4 nights in July, and thought it was quite nice. What we liked the most about the hotel was its location.. its great especially for tourists! All the major sightseeing places (the plazas, royal palace, etc) are located within walking distance of the hotel. There is also a tourist information center close by. Metro station right outside the hotel, and since the hotel is located right on Gran Via, there are plenty of shops and restaurants nearby. (we recommend Pizza Marzano right down the road from the hotel)
The people at the front desk are not very friendly (except for Aurora.. she is very helpful).. the room was a little small but still clean and comfortable. Bathroom very clean. Noises in the night didn't wake us up, but we weren't facing the main road anyway. Breakfast was included in our package and was ok, no complaints but nothing fantastic either.
We were initially a little worried about going out in the night since we heard its not so safe.. but we were out till 1030 without any problem.. beyond that not so sure since we didn't risk it!
Overall a nice hotel, clean, centrally located and convenient. Would definitely recommend it.

“Lovely stay in Madrid”

Emperador Hotel Madrid

3 Jul 2008

My husband and I stayed last week in Madrid, and we chosen Emperador Hotel to stay 3 fab u lous nights!
This hotel is located in Madrid Centre, with Metro Santo Domingo just in front of the building.
We booked a room in Club Emperador because we had read some post in internet where recommended upgrade to have a better room and views to Gran Via and we thought it was a good decission because our room was big, comfortable, good size and had extra services like coffee & tea maker. The decoration of the hotel and rooms is very very classic, event it is totally refurbished.
During our check-in a young man was helpfull and nice, and informed us about Breakfast, Swimmingpool and Club Emperador Lounge. He was very friendly during our stay, and he gave us a Madrid map with usefull information and reccomendations.
During every morning, we visited Almudena Cathedral and Royal Palace, Prado Museum, Faunia and the big store "El Corte Ingles" in Preciados street for shopping. We lunched in the Restaurants typical of the Plaza Mayor or other nice streets in the centre, with Spanish food. During afternoons, we enjoyed Madrid sun in the swimming-pool of the hotel, absolutely wonderfull but only one dissappointment: the drinks and food in the bar too expensive... But we had drinks and snack included in Club Emperador so when we wished have a drink, we went to Club Emperador Lounge.
The breakfast was good, in a nice room with natural daylight and the staff was correct.
We recommend this hotel to visit Madrid because is comfortable, good location and have Swimming-pool!!!

“Smelly Room, Rude Service”

Emperador Hotel Madrid

My girlfriend and I booked a Club Room in the Emperador for 3 nights. On check-in (after getting ripped off by that nice taxi driver) we discovered our room simply stank of cigarettes. Bizarrely, the hotel's website does not allow guest to specify a non-smoking room when booking.

My partner rang reception to complain and was told in no uncertain terms that the hotel was fully booked and they were unable to move us to another room. I decided this was not good enough and spoke to a gentleman on reception. After much complaining, he said there was a room available on the ground floor but that it faced into a courtyard; I declined the room when the staff member agreed to send someone to clean our smelly room. 10 minutes later a chambermaid arrived with a can of air freshener. I decided to return to the reception and take the basement room.

We spent a night in a small ground floor room with bars on the windows and a view of a brick wall. We had a horrendous night's sleep because the air conditioning was not working properly. It made plenty of noise but did not appear to take any of the stale, hot air out of the room. Also, the towels we threadbare in places and one of the bathrobes had a patch sown onto it! Is this shoddy service worth 250 euro per night?

The following morning I was furious and was determined to speak to the manager. I found her at reception. The manager listened to my long list of complaints and after I told her we were celebrating our engagement with a "treat" in the Emperador and how disappointed we were, she agreed to move us to a suite. The suite was fabulous admittedly; and we were sent a bottle of sparkling wine by way of apology.

One more point on this hotel; the pool is very disappointing. We picked this hotel because of it's location and because it is one of the few hotels in Madrid which has a pool. The rooftop terrace is very grubby and disappointing and there is nowhere to sit around the pool. Don't stay here because of the pool, or you may be disappointed.

On the whole, and despite the manager's apology and moving us to the hotel suite, I felt the standard of service at the Emperador leaves a lot to be desired. Most of the staff I dealt with were really rude and were completely uninterested in us. This is probably the worst service I've ever seen in a hotel and I've travelled all over the world.

Also, the Club room (which gives you access to the Club Lounge) is a complete ripoff. We couldn't find the Club Room on the first two nights. We assumed it was closed because the doors were always closed (the hotel requires you to swipe your card to gain access). All that was availalbe was a single tap of cheap draught lager and 5 bottles of spirits (one of which was gin, the others were all obscure liquers). There was also some stale snacks dotted on the unmanned bar. The place was filthy also like it hadn't been tidied for hours. I think it's disgraceful: they sell you a premium room offering access to free food and drink in an "exclusive" lounge, then they practically hide the room from the guests and stock it with dodgy drinks that nobody likes. A complete waste of money.

On the plus side, the hotel is clean and it's in a good location with some good restaurants nearby. But unfortunately, the bad experiences have marred my view of this hotel. The management response was correct but it was too late; we had to deal with 2 or 3 ignorant staff members before we got to speak to the manager. Also, on check-out, the lady at reception practically threw my receipt at me. No thank you, nothing.

For a 4-star hotel this place really falls short of the mark. Hopefully, you've found my experiences at the Emperador helpful in making your decision on accomodation in Madrid.
