We spent 3 nights at Hostal Adriano and were not disappointed.
The pros to this hostal:
it is in such a convenient location to good restaurants, to the museums of Madrid, to the subway station, to little grocery stores, to outdoor cafes - just about anything you would want is in good walking distance.
The hostal itself is very clean. It is on the 4th floor but there is a lift to get you up there. We would usually take the lift up and use the stairs going back down.
The beds were very comfortable, the room was nice and warm (it was beginning March and still very cold outside), there was a fridge in the room for a few items, the shower in the bathroom was great.
The owners of this hostal were extremely nice and courteous and when we had trouble getting wi-fi, they stayed on top of it to make sure we got it and that didn't take long at all.
The cons of this hostal:
the walls are quite thin and you can hear people quite easily in the next rooms and in the hallways. That never was a constant problem, though. You'd hear people when they arrived, and you'd hear people when they came in from an evening out. But it never lasted long. At least when we were there, people seemed to be considerate of others and didn't make more noise than was necessary. As our room was an inside room, there was absolutely no street noise.
the bathroom in our room was VERY small. The toilet is right next to the tub, and there isn't much room between the toilet and the wall, just enough to walk past it to get to the tub. We didn't mind though, since everything in the bathroom worked just fine.
Our room was at the end of a long hallway and I'm glad I didn't think of this till our last night, but if there ever was a fire in the office or any of the rooms, I think we'd have been trapped at the end of that hallway. There didn't seem to be any other way out.
Just an FYI. The heating in the room is automatic. It comes on at 6 in the evening and I'm not sure when it goes off. There is no way to turn it on at other times (which we wanted to do when we were in the room once at 3pm) and there's no way to turn it off if the room gets too warm. We felt that wasn't much of a problem, though.
Bottom line: We think Hostal Adriano is a great place to stay because it's clean and comfortable and is in an EXCELLENT location. We would definitely stay here again.
