My wife and I stayed at this hotel for 5 nights during the beginning of Sept 2007. This was a great boutique hotel to stay in while in Madrid. The staff was excellent. The accommodations were super, even starting with the slippers left for you in the room as well as the mini - kitchenette. We had a room with 2 double beds which was narrow but we had plenty of room for the stay. It was very quiet in the room. As a bonus it was in an area in Salamanca near government buildings so for added safety there were civil guards at all the corners to the street overseeing the government buildings. The location was also great, on a quiet street with many sights in walking distance - the Prado, Thyssen B, Retiro Park, Plaza Colon and Metro station. Even Plaza Mayor was in walking distance or a short metro ride. We would easily stay here again and recommend it to all of our friends.

This hotel has an excellent location but it was not what I expected. First, some of the staff were unkind and the manager in particular was a very rude, unhelpful and nasty person, something unsual at the Espahotel chain. The rooms are nicely decorated, and especially the bathroom. However, rooms are pretty small and surely not big enough for two people (a double room may be OK for one person only). The room has a kitchenette, but next to the wardrobe, which is not very practical. The tiny sitting area is compact too. The hotel itself does not have any facility (I saw a dirty and empty swimming pool which did not seem to be in use). There is no wi-fi either, so I guess it is not ideal for business stays. Overall, the hotel has a good location but it is not worth the price. There are much better choices in Madrid.

Amador de Los Rios Apthotel was absolutely the right accommodation for my needs--single woman traveler for 5 days. It is very appealing--modern, clean, contemporary touches--decor and conveniences. The room itself is very fresh, light and airy. No musty, smoky, stale air like I experienced in other Spain hotels. The bathroom is spacious, has beautiful, unpolished marble walls, with contemporary fixtures including two shower heads. The rooms have a kitchenette with fridge, stove, sink, and dishes. The fridge kept the bottles of water cold, a must for the sizzling hot August days. And it was great to make my own tea to enjoy out on the patio in the evenings. The room comes with full breakfast--they make the best eggs around--and kept me going the entire day. The location is better than being in Central Madrid. It's quieter, away from all the traffic noises, and souvenir hawkers. The best museums and plazas are all within walking distance, as well as the best fashionable shopping areas. I also felt completely safe in this area as it is located with embassies and ministries. Lastly, the hotel staff are very solicitous, considerate, and helpful. I can't say enough about how comfortable they made me feel. I will certainly stay at this hotel again.
