The Hostal is placed in a high building with accomodations at each floor. The Jerez is at floors 6 (reception) and 5 (rooms). The building is quite refurbished with 2 small but efficient elevators and the hostal on the overall looks tidy and reasonably well equipped. The main strong point is the position, just at the corner between Gran Vìa and Montera (it overlooks the Telefonica Tower) and right in front of the Gran Via metro station. Puerta del Sol is at 5 minutes' walk and the center, the entertainment areas, the theatres, cinemas, restaurants can be easily reached by metro and on foot. The receptionists have been discreet and professional. There is no breakfast but it can be found in many different bars in Calle Montera (you definitely CANNOT starve in Madrid). As for the shadows: the rooms are at the 5th floor with no elevator from the reception, and you have to carry the luggage down and up - the lights in the corridors do not always work properly - the room is not fully dark at night (slept fine all the same but can be annoying) - the Hostal overlooks extremely noisy streets, where people shout and cars/ambulances pass by almost all night; the windows really cut down the noice but the room is not so huge so if you switch on the air conditioning, it hits one of the 2 occupants right on the head (slept without the air conditioning and with the windows shut, so it was ok) - the bathroom was small but enough - you can hear some noices from the corridors. Let's say the place is far from perfect but fine for a short stay, absolutely centric and well connected.
