This hotel is rated as five stars placing it in a category with the finest hotels in the world. It has the most fantastic situation in a wide sandy bay overlooking the Mediterranean but that is where the praise stops. The only five star quality in this hotel is the 5-star prices it charges for everything you do.
The rooms are not distinguishable from those you would find in a reasonably modern 3- o 4-star hotel in Spain apart from the provision of a dressing gown. The food is reasonably good but pricy for the quality. The outside swimming pool is small although there is a climatised one that is larger and it must get frequently overcrowded in the summer. Move to the beach in front of the hotel instead? Yes its possible with access from the hotel but do not expect free facilities there. The hotel does not operate the beach facities in front of it and you will have to pay.

This is one of the most expensive hotels in Alicante and yet they will charge you for everything. What's the point of advertising the sauna, the steam room, the jacuzzi and the tennis, if you have to pay for all of that?? I mean, I am willing to pay an extra price if a hotel offers me some additional services, but these have to be included in the price.
What was really off putting was the attitude of the staff, who constantly tried to make me use or buy services, without specifying the costs!
At the check-in, I was offered pool towels and the keys for a safe - well, the pool towels were free, but the safe cost 5 euros! Of course, if I didn't ask, I would not have been told. It's very unprofessional to offer 2 things, one with and the other without charge, without specifying the charge. And I have never been in a 5 star hotel that makes you pay for the safe!!
The prices advertised did not include VAT! We had 200 euros worth of Spa treatment, but guess what, we had to add 16% VAT on top of that!! However, the prices shown on the leaflet did not include VAT. Unbelievable.
1 hour of tennis cost me 13 euros, I didn't use the jacuzzi, steam room or sauna, for which I should have paid 12 euros per person per day!

In short, if you want to enjoy some activities do not go to the Sidi San Juan, you'll pay for everything. If you want to just relax on the beach, don't go to the Sidi San Juan, choose a cheaper hotel.

Just came back from a long weekend from the Sidi San Juan with my Dad. We loved the hotel, which offered a real 5* treat. The staff were always friendly and helpful. The shuttle service into Alicante and back was brilliant, which made the weekend much more enjoyable. We were on the 4th floor which gave great sea views and you could hear the waves of the sea day & night. The champagne breakfast was gorgeous and the best omelettes we ever tasted. I would definately recommend this hotel and I would go again.

Spent 2 days at the Sidi in early February 2007. Overall a pleasant experience, although I have to warn that there are hidden extras (this may be the norm in 5 star hotels - I don't know because I don't stay at many).

The room was excellent - great views. Breakfast was superb. Not much in the way of English speaking channels on the tele (Sky News, BBC news and CNN - there were lots of German channels!). Bar was clinical (boring). May have been better if there had been more people staying there. Apart from our group of 6 I saw 2 other people at breakfast on one of our 2 days.

Now to the main gripe. I wanted a swim, sauna and steam bath. Unfortunately with my lack of Spanish and the staff's lack of English I ended up missing out on the swim and steam bath and only had a sauna (excellent with sea views). It was also nearly very embarassing as the changing area was invaded by a female staff member showing a couple around about a minute after I had been standing there naked changing into my swimming shorts (I am male and middle-aged - it wouldn't have been a pleasant experience for them or for me). For this experience I received a rather curt telephone call to my room and was unexpectedly charged 12 euros - I believed it to be free as the gym was advertised as free and I wrongly assumed that the gym, pool, sauna and steam room were all attached (as they have been everywhere else that I have stayed).

Beware that the car park is expensive as well.

We flew into Alicante airport and rented a car for our 5 night stay in Spain. On arrival at the Hotel the staff had the boot open to take the luggage before I even got out of the drivers seat. They also parked the car in the indoor garage and later in week, at my request, filled it up with petrol. The hotel was busy but not full and check in went OK with plastic 'credit card' type room keys. The main reception area is light and airy and mainly marble and glass. Our room on the 6th Floor was very good with a sea view towards Benidorm (about 20 miles) on the other side of the bay. The bedroom and bathroom were serviced each day and the bedcovers turned down each night by the chambermaid. The toilet is in a seperate room within the bathroom and has its own sliding door for extra privacy. The restaurant used for breakfast was very smart with a first class buffet. The Chef was on hand to cook anything special. The hotels other restaurant was used for Dinner, again first class service with either a fixed price menu at 33e or a la carte with some excellent dishes and not expensive. The hotel has a pianist who plays in the Bar (which has views of the bay) and also in the Restaurant at Dinner. We found all the staff extremely helpful, well trained and courteous as you would expect in a 5 star 'resort hotel'. There is an outdoor pool but we used the heated indoor pool next to the modern gymnasium. The whole atmosphere was one of relaxed formality, ideal for the tourist, perhaps not for the pure businessman.
