Just returned (9-12th May 3 nights)
I'll break this down to make up your own mind... myself I thought it was ok - and ideal for a short break at the the right price!
Rooms - I stayed on the 3rd Floor and paid a reasonable 67GBP a night for B&B with my wife..bless her it was a mothers day special treat away friom our 5 children!
The room was on the Beach side, noise not really a problem apart from a brackground hum of an external air con unit or something,
it had double patio doors which kept most of the sound out, and we overlooked the pool ( which we sat around when it wasn't raining!)
It was too cold to swim in for me tho'!
The room was ok, large bed... comfortable :-) but the decor was tired... especially in the bathroom ... definately not a 4* room
would liken it to a Post House chain room before the Holiday Inn took them over... so 2 to 3* at best!
(I stop at a lot of english hotels thro work)
Also be aware that there is major road work going on right outside on the marina side of the hotel!! and it is noisy and dusty!
The bar is a little expensive 6 euro for a small beer and a coffee!
The staff - all good and friendly, front reception and bar spoke english and were appoachable... we forgot to take an electrical adaptor plug and went to ask where to buy one and they sent one up almost immediately - so was impressed...
They will also supply a tourist map FOC is asked :-)
The Hotel is impressive, beautiful reception area, and the breakfast was excellent... the choice of food was fantastic - views and decor also great to dine in ... we were there whilst the Audi Races where taking place so loads of crews around early on
this bit was 4* !! we spent over a hour in breakfast daily as it was such a nice experience!
As it's a hotel it does have "do's" going on ... when the sun did come out and we found a quiet spot to relax in the sun - it was a bit dissapointing on this one occasion, we found ourselves witnessing just how rowdy and destructive a load of children can be without supervision :-O that were attending a confirmation.
So be warned!
The only reason perhaps we have picked up on small faults was due to the weather being poor over our long weekend and having to spend so much time in the hotel.... unbelieveably our 1st break aboard for 19 years and I just picked a bad one... not sure if you caught it on the news... flooding, buildings damaged etc on the TV... hey ho! 28 degrees back home .. typical!
Heres us wrapped in a towel keeping the cool breeze off trying to make the most of it!
We liked the hotel, it's position and the ease of getting from the airport and back! (the bus by the way - find stop 30 to the left of arrivals and get the number C-6 - last stop being across the road from the hotel 1.20 euro's )
Alicante itself - very spanish - you will need a phrase book to get by! but they are friendly people so don't be put off.. the hotel is very close to the old quarter with some beautiful buildings(and some falling/fallen down and quite abit of renovation going on!) along with some great tapas bars ( try and get used to the spanish day by the way... eat breakfast early... do lunch at midday... relax/siesta... eat again from 9pm onwards perhaps even later!!)
When searching for places to eat, we usually looked at who was popular and frequented by the spanish, this seemed to work!
- by the way smoking is still allowed in these if eating inside!
So... to sum up .. great for a long weekend .. not any longer!
and would return again or indeed recommend :-)
Shame about the weather... absolutely gutted we couldn't hit the beach or spend more time walking and sightseeing!
Still don't believe our luck!
