As a previous reviewer we booked this hotel on its close location to Postiguet beach (about 10mins walk downhill) and for it's swimming pool.
Lets start at the start.
The Hotel:
Upon arrival at the hotel at around 23:00 we are met with two receptionists with heads bowed busy doing nothing.
Took about 2 minutes for one to slowly acknowledge us with a grumpy "Si?".
No pleasantries at all then when done, I tested him out with a big smile and a thank you, and he stared right through me as if I had five heads. Not a good start and not a nice welcome to Spain.
It got worse. The room stank of drain smell or sewage when we entered. We turned on air-conditioning and opened the windows and by morning it was ok.
Next day, swimming pool was not open and would not be open all throughout our five days there. No reasons were ever given.
Breakfast was adequate. The head woman down in the restaurant was at least courteous.
Two free internet computers in the lobby, one broken display.
Walls paper thin in the rooms. We know this as we were on both ends of it. Noisy neighbours one night and then we got a bang on our wall the next night as we were talking too loud!!
Also our room keys stopped working too as other guests experienced.
Location:
10 mins walk downhill to Postiguet beach. not the cleanest beach. cigarette butts, bits of rubbish, but fine for lounging.
5 mins walk uphill to big mall for shopping or alternative breakfast.
20 mins walk to city centre.
1 hour tram ride with one change to Benidorm from the tram stop Marq just up 1 minutes walk from the hotel. Worth it for change of pace and activity.
Alicante was dead when we went (Oct 07).
Lift to Castle out of order. The walk up was not fun but the views very nice.
Numerous bars and restuarants closed.
The bars that were open were quiet and dull.
No pool tables, no pools, no darts, no arcade game, no crazy golf, no tourists (which sometimes is a good thing!), no life.
The only place that sprung to life was on the Saturday down in the Marina. A good few restaurants and a good few bars.
We struggled for things to do in Alicante. Our day trip to Benidorm was more active and enjoyable than the other 4 days in Alicante.
If I had to do it over again I would have chosen Benidorm.
If I had to choose Alicante again it would NOT be the Kris Hotel.
I probably would chose the Spa Maris down in the Marina, it looked pretty impressive.
