“Kris Hotel, Alicante a let-down”

Kris Alicante Hotel

As a previous reviewer we booked this hotel on its close location to Postiguet beach (about 10mins walk downhill) and for it's swimming pool.
Lets start at the start.

The Hotel:

Upon arrival at the hotel at around 23:00 we are met with two receptionists with heads bowed busy doing nothing.
Took about 2 minutes for one to slowly acknowledge us with a grumpy "Si?".
No pleasantries at all then when done, I tested him out with a big smile and a thank you, and he stared right through me as if I had five heads. Not a good start and not a nice welcome to Spain.
It got worse. The room stank of drain smell or sewage when we entered. We turned on air-conditioning and opened the windows and by morning it was ok.

Next day, swimming pool was not open and would not be open all throughout our five days there. No reasons were ever given.

Breakfast was adequate. The head woman down in the restaurant was at least courteous.

Two free internet computers in the lobby, one broken display.

Walls paper thin in the rooms. We know this as we were on both ends of it. Noisy neighbours one night and then we got a bang on our wall the next night as we were talking too loud!!

Also our room keys stopped working too as other guests experienced.

Location:

10 mins walk downhill to Postiguet beach. not the cleanest beach. cigarette butts, bits of rubbish, but fine for lounging.
5 mins walk uphill to big mall for shopping or alternative breakfast.
20 mins walk to city centre.
1 hour tram ride with one change to Benidorm from the tram stop Marq just up 1 minutes walk from the hotel. Worth it for change of pace and activity.

Alicante was dead when we went (Oct 07).
Lift to Castle out of order. The walk up was not fun but the views very nice.
Numerous bars and restuarants closed.
The bars that were open were quiet and dull.
No pool tables, no pools, no darts, no arcade game, no crazy golf, no tourists (which sometimes is a good thing!), no life.
The only place that sprung to life was on the Saturday down in the Marina. A good few restaurants and a good few bars.

We struggled for things to do in Alicante. Our day trip to Benidorm was more active and enjoyable than the other 4 days in Alicante.

If I had to do it over again I would have chosen Benidorm.

If I had to choose Alicante again it would NOT be the Kris Hotel.

I probably would chose the Spa Maris down in the Marina, it looked pretty impressive.

Myself and my girlfriend stayed here for 5 days. We had booked it as it is one of the few city hotels that has a pool and it was only 15 minutes walk to the beach and to the city centre. Unfortunately this pool was not open on any of our days there which was defeating the purpose of using this particular hotel. I couldn't get a satisfactory reason for this pool not being available.
There is a small bar on the ground floor which was reasonable value for money although it closed before 12 each night. All in all there isn't much around this hotel with the exception of a large mall a 5 minute walk away and the impressive castle from which there are fabulous views of the area. Personally as the hotel wasn't as advertised, I wouldn't stay here again although in itself the hotel was clean and well maintained, the chambermaids service was very good as well. There were several problems with the keycards not working, the reception staff advised that it was due to keeping them near cellular phones. There was also a steady stream of guests keeping them busy having their keys re-coded!

The Kris Alicante is an average hotel situated opposite a Metro station. It's a 10 minute walk (if that even) to the beach front, and from there you can walk into the town, all in all it's roughly 15 to 20 minutes to reach the town.
The staff were very patient with me and my partner when trying to book in as we didn't speak any Spanish.
Finally the food is cheap in the hotel cafe and room service isn't expensive.

Overall I would recommend this hotel to most people, with the exception of unfit or disabled as you have to walk up hill and up some steps to reach the hotel if walking from the beach. There's not that many steps though.
I did notice a bus stop outside the hotel and the Metro station, so you could avoid the uphill walk if you need to.

“Perfect Hotel”

Booked this Hotel after reading the reviews and i have to say that it is getting mixed reviews.
The hotel is clean, tidy and very modern, everything worked fine in my room and the house keeping was on time.
The staff are very freindly but seem a bit distant at first. With most spanish people i found you have to say hello and initiate the conversation and they are more than happy to chat. However, the staff were great but their English was not, but i give them 10/10 for trying. You will understand them even though they are a little vague.
I think they seemed under pressure most of the time this is mainly because the desk was manned by one person only.
The bar staff were friendly too and didnt mind us taking bottles and glasses to our rooms.
The hotel is a little out of the way into the centre of town but it only took a casual 15 min walk on the beach front which is ok. the shopping centre nearby was great shopping and buying some groceries from the huge supermarket.
The beach is only a 5 min walk and overall i enjoyed my stay here and would recommend it.
I asked politely and even managed to get checked out at 2pm.

booked direct in spanish? 3 nights 3 persons £124.00 bed and breakfast . hotel modern air con throughout, swimming pool fine with small kids pool, breakfast continental something for everyone very nice i thought. Mostly spanish, french only a few british but that dosnt bother me. The hotel Isnt Really any good for disabled or pushchairs as the hotel is situated up a hill (there is alot of steps) Huge shopping plaza 5 minute walk across alot of traffic lights but nice shops for us girls mango, zara etc. 5-10 minute walk downhill to beach which is very nice , two sunbeds and brolly 8euro. marina fantastic food and drink good prices found an irish bar. Alicante is so spanish which is wonderful no egg and chips! tobacconist do not accept visa! and beware of pick pockets. Overall great place 10mins from airport 15-18 euro in taxi would go again no hesitation .Would reccommend Alicante for a short break with a beach and good food.
