“Great location”

Tryp Gran Sol

Stayed here 1-3 February 2008 and stumbled upon CARNAVAL !.

The room consisted of a bedroom and sitting room and a balcony on 2 sides. It was on the 24th floor and the views were tremendous.

No tea/coffee making facilities. One of the key light switches didn't work. The rooms were clean.

Breakfast (buffet) was around 14 Euros but I've had better at the 3star Expo hotel in Valencia.

Hotel desk staff were impeccable and service was slick.

My airline only allows online check-in 2 days before a flight which makes it difficult when you are away from base. Locating an internet cafe in Alicante proved troublesome (researched before I
left home). However, the hotel had a printer and internet connection and I was able to print my boarding card/pass for the flight back to London.

The hotel occasionally has special offers. I have taken up a half-price offer for the end of February 2008. 32.50 Euros a night (excluding breakfast) for a standard room.

The hotel was adequate for my purposes.

“air-cond awful !”

Tryp Gran Sol

Stayed in the Gran Sol 3 nights. Had read previous reviews about decor in hotel and air-conditioning (and Im not over fussy person either) and was bit apprehensive about what to arrive to, but must be perfectly honest they were right.
Was on 14th floor, room very dated, could hear in distance other peoples units on and when people ran water in bathrooms it was quite loud, hear lift in distance.
The air-conditioning wasnt, more light a glorified powerful freezing cold "fan", near floor level, noise horrendous and ridiculous, one switch broken off completely, and plug behind TV hanging off. After sitting on sofa was freezing had to turn it off completely. Couldnt use it in bedroom as it would of kept me awake. So was stifling in the night !
But apart from cond/decor, and a strange sweet smell in room when first entered (reckon that the fan system and blowing stale air etc) weird smell.
Was happy to get a living -room. The view was absolutely fantastic, never seen anything like it. Had meal on 26th floor restaurant, which was ok, view spectacular at that height over Alicante at night, th castle lit up etc.
Didnt have breakfast at all, went out for lunch/evening meals.
for 75euros per night (excluding breakfast) you couldnt grumble.
Have arrived back in UK with horrendous bad cold, whether due to get one no idea, but I was so freezing with "fan" on think more like received a chill.
On the whole I will return at some point to the Tryp Gran Sol.

Stayed here for a couple of nights in August. Asked for a room with a view and got one. The 17th floor had a great view across the harbour and beach area and included a little balcony which it was possible to venture on to (rare in high rise buildings, I thought). The single room was basic and not very big, but was clean which is important for me. Bathroom was tiny but, again, very clean. The restaurant near the top provided good food at moderate prices. As there were only two guest lifts I thought it would take ages to travel to/ from my floor but surprisingly this wasn't the case! I would recommend this place for anyone who wants good, clean accommodation to explore Alicante but isn't too fussed by room decor. One thing that irritated me slightly - no free internet - had to pay €2 (I think it was) for half an hour. In this day and age that should be free.

“Super stay.”

We were asked which room we would like when we arrived, as we had read some reviews saying higher rooms were best, we got a room on 22nd floor.
Views were wonderful and looked great day and night when the castle is all lit up on the hill.
Room was nice clean and airy, small seating area was nice and bathroom was very nicely laid out and very clean and user friendly.
Reception was staffed by friendly females and slightly grumpy males, but females served you with a smile and were very helpful.
It was noisy at night, but you are situated right on the esplanda, so what would you expect? Alicante itself is a beautiful place and we will be going back for sure.

“fantastic short break”

Just stayed for 3 nights at the above hotel, and was pleasantly surprised, after paying just 70 euros a night.
Found it hard to fault the hotel ,the only thing i could comment on was the noisy air con which rattled too much to have on during night, which was unbearable because the temperature never dropped to less than 29 degrees during night.
We got a room on the 22nd floor, and the view was breathtaking, room was adequate also.Bathroom was well equipped and had a good shower, better than most hotels we have stayed in.
Alicante is a great place, felt very safe at night walking around,it was nice to see so many people with young children, enjoying an evening stroll,it had a real nice atmosphere, which alot of places cannot offer nowadays.
We too got the c6 bus from the airport, which is well worth 1 euro for a 40 minute ride straight to the hotel.
We will definately be returning to Alicante, next time i will take my young daughter,as i know she would love it too, will probably stay at the Tryp again as it was good value for money.
