We have just returned from 16 nights at the castilla alicante. The rooms were very clean and the maid service was excellent Daily towel changes etc. We stayed on the sixth floor and Had a side sea view across the road past a couple of high rises. The hotel is in a residential area so do not expect pretty sea views etc, however the balconys are fairly large and do benefit from the sun most of the day. The beautiful 7 km long san juan beach is only 3 mins walk from the hotel and the 21 bus (stop outside hotel) will take you to ALICANTE or EL CAMPELLO for 1 euro. The nearest Tram station is COSTA BLANCA (left out of hotel and 600 mtrs along the av de costa blanca) The fair again 1 euro and connections to Benidorm ,Denia etc are from the terminus at el campello. The hotel Reception Staff are very friendly and only to willing to help even though their english is slightly limited. The bar/ restaurant staff are in general very efficient and polite but due to this being a predominantly spanish hotel some may appear abrupt to uk visitors, However a small knowledge of spanish does go a long way as their knowledge of english is not the best . The bar serves Drinks ,Tapas and snacks all at reasonable prices. It is also very popular with local non residents. Breakfast is either continental (a roll , jam and coffee (served in the bar area) or buffet which is the option we had served in the restaurant. There are plenty of cold options but the scrambled egg, small sausages and bacon was normally on the cold side even when freshly brought from the kitchen and I assume tomato ketchup Hasn,t yet got a foothold in the market in this area as there isn,t any..(We did hovewver discover hidden among the cereals a microwave oven available for use (found on our second last day). The restaurant staff are a bit paranoid about your breakfast card that you have issued so be warned do not forget it in the morning. Evening meals are served here also, at a cost of 15 euros for 2 courses and a dessert (Tried it once and it was REALLY COLD . " so be warned. two blocks away(av de portugesa) is the "AA" recommended tapas bar/restaurant Los Charros which is excellent and very cheap
However all in all we had a pleasurable stay and would certainly use the hotel again as a base for touring the casta blanca.
