Went for a week of winter sunshine to the Gran Hotel Bali which is situated at the south end of the Poniente Beach in the small resort of La Cala/Finestrat.
This resort is ideally situated if you want a quieter trip to Benidorm but only a short 1 Euro bus trip into the main resort which has all the usual comedians etc.

The hotel itself is only four years old with 43 floors and room views to die for. The rooms are ample for a four star establishment and the food is good also although, being full board, we did get a wee bit sick of it by the end of our week. (Probably caused by eating too much, I suppose).

The staff were very helpful and friendly and can't really find anything to complain about at all. If I were nitpicking a bit, I suppose the Spanish conferences who descended on the hotel from time to time were a bit invasive, but thats about it.

We stayed in the Hotel Bali in 2005, we didnt book we just took a chance and walked in, they only had a suite available that slep four people, we were with friends so we decided to book even though it cost approx 495 euros per night, it was our friends birthday so we thought why not, however apart from a few gadgets in the suite and a few extras we were not impressed, we stayed for 2 nights, the first night we went down to the restaurant where a women had passed out by the buffet and it took half an hour for medics to turn up, food was not good, we were half board but did not eat there again. The views were stunning from our room, we were on the 42nd floor but would not book there again. This Hotel is not a 4 star, and the restaurant was more like a school dinner hall with people rushing to get the food when the trays came out of the kitchen.

Just came back from the Hotel Bali, not impressed for a four star hotel and should not be classed as one by the holiday companies, three star at best. Food average, staff plesant, but did not go out of their way to help you. Dirty glasses in bar, hotel room definatley not clean enough for a four star hotel. Good choice of three pools, however the surrounding area especially the sun loungers were absolutely filthy for days on end. On the positive side trip to the viewing platform is a must, but the charge for residents of one euro is ridiculous and should be free. The comedy moment of the whole holiday, was the fawlty towers incident one morning at breakfast where, and english family (not us) noticed a cockroach under the table and screamed, attracted the attention of a waiter who ignored the cockroach as if it did not excist and went about his business as usual. This was the butt of many one liners between me and my husband with a fawlty towers theme. Cockroach what cockroach it is a sultana with legs etc. etc. Thats enough about the hotel, there is an excellant cafe close by called Yago near the bus stop for the no. 5 and no. 12 bus. Here you can sit drink coffee, eat icecream or pastries and watch lots of accidents. People knocked off bikes, cars crashing into each other etc. etc. If you are thinking of hiring a car I have never seen so many accidents on average 1 per day. Phesant Plucker deserves a mention, Good Cider and Larger, plus dj good, but be aware it only opens from 7pm till late, go if you can, out of hotel turn left up bank, can't miss it. Top tip for finding the beach, go to Yago and then head down hill 5 mins later you are on the beach and a lovely beach it is too. Bus no. 5 is only 1 euro and takes you into town. If you are ever travelling to Benidorm on business, the Bali is a good hotel, but my personal choice is the Levante Club on the Levante side of Benidorm, which has a nicer atmosphere.

10 of us stayed here last year full board and we all agreed that it was above average in amenities. It is a stunning hotel to look at and can be seen for miles around due to the onboard lighting, giving you no excuse to get lost! (One of my personal failings abroad) The views from all our suites were fantastic and the glass lifts gave fabulous views for miles. The food was superb, freshly cooked and with an abundance of choice. The staff were very obliging and helpful the only downside was that it was a long way from the main town and just to give you an idea it cost us 14 euros by taxi to the night life and back. We all thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would happily book again.

Just arrived back 18/02/06 rooms clean food ok but the smell in the reception area is not a nice welcome to your holiday. The smell was of drains. Staff on reception not very happy or helpful. Take note at 8.30 the prices in the lounges change it's a minium charge of 3.20(euro) for drinks this is for coffee also. This hotel is mainley for spanish holiday makers and business meetings which they seem to have plenty of. This hotel was advertised as a 4/5star i would rate this as a 3star.
