This review could go on for pages but I will try and keep it as short as possible. I returned yesterday from a 10 day break in the Deloix and although I was upset to end my holiday, I was glad to leave. Based on recent reviews on TA this is why I booked this hotel, but now knowing what I know and reading some of the poor reviews, there are common themes which are very disappointing. This is my opinion, feel free to make your own decisions.
On arrival we were told that the room wasn't ready and that we had the choice to have lunch as we were half board. I thought that was great and we went straight to the cafeteria. My heart sank, there was barely any choice (we previously stayed at the sandos monaco and we were spoilt for choice). All the food looked unappealing, although there was a good salad selection. We gave it the benefit of the doubt and hoped the evening meal would be better, although we wouldnt see this until the next day as we were half board. The food never got better infact it got worse, a lot worse. Breakfast was ok, although never hot, always warmish, sausages looked raw and the tea and coffee was not only vile but a joke as you had to wait 5 mins for it to come out of the machine. The queues were ridiculous and the cafeteria is so badly set out you are constantly weaving in and out of people, queuing or bumping into people. In the end, me and my partner started to have our lunch or evening meal out of the hotel, the last day being a good example as the lunch option was tripe and what looked like a ducks carcass in some type of brown sauce! I felt quite ill looking at it. The dessert one evening was smiley faced biscuits that were soft. I love my food and I expect good quality, I would consider myself to have high standards but as long as it looks appealing and tastes ok I'm happy. No food at this hotel ticks those boxes.
On the plus side, the rooms are lovely and spacious, the housekeepers work hard and keep them spotless. On the first night we had a few issues with the room, firstly the balcony door wouldnt lock (which is a concern as you can climb onto the next rooms balcony), because the door didnt lock the automatic air con didnt work and it was sweltering, the beer in the mini bar was 8 months out of date, the temperature control on the shower came off in my hand and could have scalded me and I had to duck to have a shower as the shower head would slide back down the pole. Before we went out we informed the gentleman at the reception and to be fair he had the maintenance man fix all the problems by the time we returned in the evening. We thanked him the next day for doing this but I think our complaints had sealed our fate and for the rest of the 9 days staff seemed to be ignorant and rude to us. Although I am grateful that all the issues were fixed quickly, the room should have never been given to us in this state in the first place. They make a point of you PAYING to have a safe to keep your valuables in (which was 2 euros a day and a refundable 5 euro deposit) but they cannot provide a secure room and act like it is an inconvenience to fix it. There is no tea or coffee facilities in the room and the only english channels are sky/bbc news and movies for men, i really missed some radio channels.
On the first day we used the SPA, the lady running the facility was very helpful and it was very clean, but all you got was a sauna, steamroom and jacquzzi. not really worth the money. I would suggest that you look at the spa's in other hotels and pay to go there.
I only used the out door pool once as it was very cold, I used the indoor pool's most days, you have to pay 2.50 euros for a swimming cap and in the spa we had to pay another 2.50 euro for some rubber socks. Make sure you take plenty of money with you as this hotel charges you for anything and everything!!! the drinks are pricey (if you ever get served as the bar staff are extremely ignorant and spend most of their time on the phone), the internet is 50c for 7 mins!!, and the various other costs all add up.
Back to the indoor pool, although I enjoyed spending time in there, it does need some maintenance work, it has various stations for different massage functions, swan neck falls and massage sprays but none of these ever worked and it was only in the last day that some started to work intermittently. There is also 2 jaquzzi's but they failed to work on the last day of our stay. They have a waterfall feature in the middle of the pool which is rusted but still works and what looks like a butchers curtain going from the indoor pool into the outdoor pool.
Entertainment was shocking, limbo, some duets, some dancing girls that looked like strippers. The highlight was a parrot show which I didnt mind. I wouldnt criticise entertainment too much as it seems generic around most spanish hotels as I have seen some of the other acts in other hotels in Benidorm.
Be aware that the hotel is located about 15/20 mins walk from the top end of Levante Beach. I was aware of ths and it wasnt a problem, but if you spend a lot of time in the centre it may not be the hotel for you. Its great fro some atractions like Mundomar (which I highly recommend) and Aqualandia which you can walk to. Also the benidorm Palace is a 2 min walk and the Medieval show is close by. There is a few bars by the deloix that I suggest you visit, the Tropical is great with lovely staff and great acts, the Yorkshire pride has ok food with BIG portions, but for food I would recommend the Levi's showboat 11 euro 3 course menu. You have to book but it is worth it, excellent quality for the price and the service is great. The rock and roll house is also a great venue for acts and has a great atmosphere. We were probably the youngest people in there but the music was good.
When we left the hotel the receptionist asked us to pay the minibar bill (which was previously queried as we were given a free can of beer because the other 2 were out of date, and then when it came to paying they questioned why we hadnt included this in the overall cost), the receptionist didnt ask us how our stay was or thanked us for our custom or even goodbye, she just took the key and walked off.
You may think that this review is just complaints for complaints sake, but we are an easy going couple and enjoy the simple things that are prerequisite of a 4* hotel, the Deloix failed to deliver this. The hotel lacks atmosphere, I can't put my finger on it, but you didnt feel like you were on holiday there, it felt sedate, stuffy and that it was an inconvenience you being there. The only life I seen was when they held 2 wedding receptions which were rowdy but to be honest it was great to have some music and people who look like they were enjoying themselves.
Make your own mind up about this hotel, but if customer service, quality food and location are high on your list of priorities then this is not the hotel for you. If you like a clean hotel, with spacious rooms, with ignorant staff and you like wasting your money on slop which I wouldnt feed my dog then please visit the Deloix and enjoy.
