We have just returned from a fantastic stay at La Vue D'or with our two young daughters who are under 4.
The family that run this hotel are such lovely people and were willing to do anything to make our stay enjoyable.
From the Accommadation to the Food, we have nothing but good things to say.
It's a car journey from Sorrento, (Although the hotel run a very good bus service into Sorrento) But this was lovely as we could enjoy all that Sorrento had to offer and then come and relax back in a very quite enviroment.
We can't wait to return and definately recommend this hotel to anyone !

The hotel location is superb (assuming that you want to be out of the town a little) with amazing views and very peaceful.
However the hotel's web site description of 2 kms is a bit misleading as we clocked it in our car at 4kms from the junction at the bottom of the hill in Sorrento.
The regular courtesy mini bus service into Sorrento was fine, but their web site could show the times of this service to assist planning of trips/excursions beforehand.
In addition, the 10:00am shuttle is a little bit early for those who have a late breakfast, particularly when the next shuttle is 12:00 noon.

The 'double bed' room description is misleading as it is really 2 singles pushed together with nothing actually joining/holding 2 separate single beds, which proved to be a little uncomfortable at times. I believe that this may be standard practice in Italy as our subsequent hotel in Rome had a similar arrangement, but there the beds had been 'joined' so they did not move apart.

The sun deck was superb and had sun on it late into the evening which was really appreciated if you had been out most of the day.

Breakfast was OK, but the juice could have been fresh. The juice we had seemed to be made form powder and not even concentrate which was a disappointment. Also we did notice the occassional ant on the breakfast buffet table (but none in our room)!

All the staff were always very helpful, friendly and cheerful. Nothing was too much trouble and our room was spotlessly clean. .

The hotel only sell €5 24 hour bus tickets when €1 single
trip tickets are avaiable at local shops in town for the domestic busses that stop right outside. Similarly there are no brochures from your local Tourist Information Office available for independent guests at the hotel.

There is a problem with some of the seats on the courtesy mini bus. in that a number of those on the driver's.were loose as the fittings/bolts seemed to have come undone.

This hotel is beautiful on the inside and out. It was a lot different than the hotels we stayed at in the big cities. The view was breath taking and they even had a shuttle bus that took you in and out of town. With that said, there was however a little ant problem.

The first day we noticed a few ants in our bathroom and thought it was no big deal – we’re in the mountains. However, when I woke up the next morning to one on my pillow and next to my hand on the stark white sheets, I had a big problem with that. I went straight to the front desk (in my pjs!) and talked to the owner. He refused to give us our money back. Hastily, he offered us another room and a free dinner at the hotel. Mean while the woman working at the counter rudely kept reassuring me that ants are a natural part of the earth and couldn’t understand why I was upset. So we took the owner up on the other room (but not the dinner). That night in the other room, we had ants crawling on the walls near the headboard of the bed. At 3am we moved the bed in the middle of the room while my husband got ant spray from the man at the front desk. We kept spraying and it seemed to keep them away for the rest of our stay.

Like I said, I wish I could have given this hotel a better review – but I can’t. I can say that my sister-in-law and brother-in-law stayed there at the same time and had no ant problem. So if you don’t mind chancing the ant problem, this hotel is beautiful.

we have stayed at the hotel twice,once for seven nights returning the year after for 14 nights,the hotel is family run and is very efficent form the time you book in to the sad time of leaving.the hotel is based approx 6km away from the town centre,but do not worry as the hotel runs a free shuttle bus 4 times through out the day to the town centre.
the rooms we stayed in were clean with shower facilities ,twin bed and on the 2nd stay we had a balcony, i had the belief that if you booked privately you had better rooms with better views.
we were half board with both breakfast and evening meal being excellent,we never dreaded having to eat there, of course in Sorrento the are plenty of places to eat.
the swimming pool was clean and big enough to have a swim in,plenty of sunbeds,for any drinks you walked back into the hotel where a bar was situated,tables and chairs were sited next to the pool.
no entertainment was provided but this was not the purpose of using this hotel, the views are stunning looking across to Mount Vesuveus and the Bay of Naples.
We enjoyed the hotel as it was not filled with children,the children who were there were extremely well behaved at all times.
a 25 min walk up the hill will bring you to the lovely village of St Agatha,which is a delight, lovely bakery/cafe to enjoy.
The town of Sorrento is delightful and is a place to be in the evening,lovely people and lovely food.
I would delight to recomend the hotel to any traveller wishing to enjoy the area, it is not for families with children who want to make a lot of noise and disturb the surroundings.
