We stayed at the Hotel Belair 24/08/12 – 31/08/12 and it was our first visit to Sorrento. The hotel has a quaint feel but is immediately comfortable. We stayed in a junior suite which was spacious, notably clean with a big double bed, lots of wardrobe space, sofa etc and with a balcony offering the most wonderful view across the Golfo di Napoli towards Vesuvius and overlooking Sorrento and the Marina Grande. This view changed with the light throughout the day until evening, with the lights shimmering across the bay and the beautiful vista of the town lit up against the evening sky.
This also is a most beautiful and romantic backdrop to dinner in the restaurant area – make sure you get a balcony table.
Although the pool might appear small there was never a time when it was crowded. Loungers were readily available and the poolside service from Stefano was friendly and professional. During our stay at times it was very hot but there are a number of shaded nook in which you can sit and read or just quietly relax.
The food was consistently excellent as was the service. The waiters were without exception friendly, welcoming, and consummately professional. The hotel had an impressive selection of wines with some fantastic wines from the region. The Head Waiter, Michele clearly set the standard for his team was always on hand to explain dishes, and knowledgeable on the wines available. Michele had even made note during the course of our week that my wife is a vegetarian and had made special provision in the menu for her on our last night which coincided with the occasion of the Hotels’ “Romantic Dinner” Evening – fantastic on all counts.
We enjoyed evenings after of meal sitting on the balcony of the hotel bar enjoying an espresso and a grappa – the brand of which was recommended by the Bar Manager – who also gave us handy tips on travelling around and updated weather forecasts.
Breakfasts were typical buffet style and again – good selection
It was a 10-15 minute walk down the hill into the town which in actual fact posed no problem to us.
We enjoyed a most wonderful stay at Hotel Belair and if this is any recommendation - we would not hesitate to return.
