Ok, let's get a couple of negatives out of the way:
1. As mentioned earlier, could have done with tea making facilities in the room.
2. I thought it was a bit mean to charge 6 euros for key to change code on room safe.
3. Noisy bin men etc early in morning (more on this later)
Do NOT let any of this put you off, just be aware before you book.
This is an excellent hotel, scrupulously clean, comfortable and with the best staff ever. The food is good and wholesome and well presented by Enzo the Maitre'd and his team. They really are a friendly and entertaining bunch, and nothing was too much trouble. The hotel is in an excellent location and only 5 mins walk to all ameneties and the main square.
If you want to see Vesuvius every morning when you wake up, make sure you get a room from 4th floor up, preferably to the right (as you look out from hotel) It really is a stunning view and changes according to time of day and Naples smog conditions. Having a front room is not all heaven. It can be very noisy out front. I doubt you could have balcony door open all night as the noise from scooters, cars, people etc can be quite intrusive. A number of times, early morning bin men arrived out front to empty those big 1000 litre wheely bins close by. They crash and bash them about and it really booms out.
My bar bill for a week was 240 euros, that included 4 bottles of decent vino (Falanghina Villa Matilde) a couple of lunches for two, coffee every evening and most afternoons, some post dinner Grappa, some soft drinks around the pool, mineral water with dinner etc. Not unreasonable for me, but I was not on a tight budget. You can make a daily check on your bar tab if you like via reception.
Almost forgot to mention....flipping good breakfast! Everything there from fruit, cereal, pastries, cakes, breads, cold cuts, cheeses, pickles (yuk!) scrambled eggs, omelettes, bacon, sausages etc etc.
Please go there. It really is excellent. We will return, and we cannot wait. Don't be tight, leave a decent tip. The guys there have to find other jobs from end of October as the hotel is seasonal and they have to travel quite far afield out of season.
