“A delight ....outstanding views in small, elegant, tranquil ex- Italian Villa with friendly staff”
Just got back from spending 8 days at the Miramare.... had a wonderful time & would not hesitate to recommend this tranquil, elegant ex-italian villa with outstanding views (only 26 rooms too). It was a pleasure coming back to sit out on our large private garden terrace , cold glass of wine in hand , set well back from the road & watch the world go by from an elevated position with an excellent view of Vesuvius straight ahead & to the right the bay of Sorrento.
All the staff were friendly & the reception provided useful information and booked anything we wanted. We'd recommend the day trip to Capri - only 17 people on lovely boat , chance to swim, informal lunch & picked up & returned to the hotel with useful guide - looked after from beginning to end & so relaxing ! (Other option is to queue all day long with the hundreds of other tourists for the main hydrofoil)
The hotel's communal areas are light, tranquil areas. The breakfast room overlooked the bay through french doors & you could choose to sit outside for breakfast which we did most mornings. The garden & small pool areas were clean & well kept with flowers, shrubs & olive trees close to the garden studio (complete with terrace) we stayed in. (remember your insect repellent). There was also a large roof terrace which was lovely to relax on.
Inside the high ceilinged airy room, furnishings were dark wood in keeping with the style however this made the rooms dark when the shutters, & french windows were closed but kept the sound of the traffic out.The small kitchenette was useful (sink, microwave, hob, fridge, cutlery & crockery) if you wanted to use it ...some wine glasses would have been useful though the bar obliged. The huge bed was so comfortable. The rooms were cleaned & towels changed daily with complimentary toiletries also provided .
The walk into Sorrento was only 10 - 15 minutes- & yes the road is busy- (welcome to Sorrento- there's traffic everywhere) but to have those views walking in both directions was terrific & helped work off all the wonderful seafood pastas we ate at the restaurants in Marine Grande..... some tourists never venture past the centre & so many hotels open out directly onto the road with balconies overhanging the traffic....seeing these we were glad that we had chosen to stay at the Miramare .
Room for improvement...the breakfast ticked all the boxes for what it provided (eg cereal , yogurt, fruit, bread, jams etc) & the fresh pastries/ bread were refilled regularly however agree with previous review ... tinned fruit (ahhg) & no choice of cheese / ham was disappointing - giving no variety to the breakfasts.
If you want to get away from tourists then a walk up via Capodimonte (opposite the camping sign) walking up towards the President hotel brings you to all the lemon & orange groves, & we actually continued & walked over the hill to the village of Masse Lubrense & then on to the wonderful small port there & caught the bus back. Just ensure you have a reasonable map.Public transport train/ bus very cheap & easy to catch to all the sites( Pompei, Ercolaneum, Amalfi drive) just be prepared to be patient & to queue. Taxi 21 euros to the train station one way from the hotel...expensive for 2 Km drive.
Hotel Miramare was a delight - thank you for a wonderful holiday.
Sea view & garden terrace worth paying extra for (we had room 405 - which was the same as rooms...
