This small hotel is very conveniently placed and reasonably priced, in a town that seems something of a tourist honeypot. The hotels closer to the coast seem very pricey. Hotel City gave us a good base for two days spent exploring archaeological sites around the Bay of Naples, without the exciting prospect of being mugged in Naples itself. Hotel City has very small rooms, clean and recently decorated. The aircon / heating and the TV did not work but this did not bother us as we did not spend much time in the room and it was not hot, nor very cold outside. The hotel is directly on the main street, Corsa Italia, and this will be a problem if noise bothers you (doesn't bother us!). Main downside was the 'inclusive breakfast' of vending machine coffee, sweet rolls and as much jam as you could face. No butter. The staff seemed pleasant and helpful and the hotel seemed very clean, safe and well decorated.

This hotel was convenient (close to train station), very attractive, comfortable, and good breakfast. It is next door to a grocery store and overall great location. We got a great deal on it too.
I used Rick Steves guidebook and I agree Sorrento is central for the sites in this area of Italy. for my taste, however, Sorrento is overrated. too touristy and expensive. aside from the grocery store and one restaurant near the train station, not many good deals on food in this town. the town is cute, but tourist info places here were not helpful. the only laundrymat (across English Inn) is a rip off. --only the center dryer works. the internet place near the laundrymat (a bar actually) is also a rip off. Three euro for 10 minutes. There is a good pizza place just down the side street from laundrymat.

The rooms are small but clean and well equipped with terraces attached to them and with good bathrooms. The rooms facing front can be a bit noisy, though closing the french windows effectively keeps the sound out, but the aircondition works very well, so it doesn't get all hot and stuffy inside. And sitting in the attached balcony is great people watching, with what appears to be the entire tourist population of the Bay of Naples and Amlafi coast passing by at least twice ! The staff are very friendly and helpful, and speak pretty decent English. The breakfast is about average, the usual bread rolls, cerals, cheese & jams etc. The location is very convenient, a five minute ( at most ) walk from the train station and the airport transfer bus stop, and even less to Piazza Tasso, the centre of Sorrento.
The down side is no lift, so if you are on the 2nd floor, lugging the suitcases up can be heavy weather, and as I said earlier, small rooms.
Everything has a clean and freshly painted feel, making me think they just refurbished and are waiting for a re-rating up from thier present 1star status. But meanwhile, it's very reasonable at a little bit over Euros 100 per double. I've stayed in much worse 3 stars, and think that all in all, it's a terriffic bargain.
