I think after reading the previous reviews, that the staff at this hotel must be bipolar!.. We too did not have good experiences with the staff. Stayed in a beautiful room with a balcony, nice furniture, although a little bare, and a too firm mattress. But, for the price, I wouldnt stay there again. This hotel bears a 4 star rating, but not 4 star service.

My wife and I stayed 3 nights at the Palazzo Guardati in May and we absolutely loved this hotel. Since it's a new hotel, it is more like an American boutique hotel, complete with wireless internet access, flat-screen TV, marble bathroom and plush towels. It is in a perfect location, with a great rooftop bar/patio overlooking the bay and it's steps away from the main square, shopping and the port. All of fhe front desk staff spoke fluent english and they were extremely helpful. This was our 2nd trip to Sorrento and when we visit again, we will definitely stay at the Palazzo Guardati - highly recommended!

We booked this hotel through a popular booking site, one deluxe room and one superior room. It is in a brilliant location, don't think there is a hotel more conveniently located in Sorrento. I would however agree with the previous reviewer regarding the parking, its not easy to find. Its an underground carpark opposite the Hotel Antiche Mura at the top of Palazzo Tasso, near where all the taxis park. We had problems finding it also. Its only a five minute walk away though so problems there.

The deluxe room was 303, most likely the best room in the house. Very large, the biggest balcony by far and great views. The superior room was smaller (as expected) and on the first floor with no view (as expected). The rooms and common areas are spotless, I have never in my life seen a hotel maintained to a higher standard of cleanliness. Everything gleamed and smelled fresh and clean.

The check in staff were friendly and welcoming and everytime you entered or left they greeted you. They also assisted us by printing some things off the net for us. The a/c in the rooms was great - really effective and quiet. The sanitary ware in the bathrooms was of excellent quality. There was a shower over bath in the superior room and walk in monsoon shower in the deluxe room. Everything was new and modern and beautifully decorated. I personally found the mattress a little firm, but I'm used to a softer one, I know my travelling companions thought it was perfect.

The roof top bar is fab, great views and service. Breakfast is quite a treat - lots and lots of cakes!! I was leaving before the rest of my family so I wanted to arrange a bottle of champagne to be sent to their room the next night. Luigi at the front desk arranged this to perfection. It was sent up the next night with a rose and my message typed out on a lovely card. I was so impressed by this hotel, it is by far the best I have stayed at in Italy. I can't think of a single thing that could be changed. I will be staying here again and again.

We have recently returned from a 3 night stay at this hotel. I would absolutely NOT recommend this hotel to anyone!

The other reviews are accurate in the description of the hotel,it is a nice new hotel located on a quite street off of the main piazza. The rooms are somewhat nicely appointed, but sparse. However, the level of service is appallling, especially for the price. I am a seasoned traveler to Europe and familiar with the cordial nature of the hotel staff. But, with the exception of the rooftop bartender and a gentleman who works evenings, the woman owner of the hotel and the daytime staff should not be in the hotel business.

This hotel is not easy to find if you are arriving by car. This was my third time to Sorrento and I had bit of trouble finding it. If you are arriving by car, you must temporarily park in the nearby square and bring your bags down the alleys. If (and that is a big if), there are two people at the front desk, one may or may not help you, depending on their mood. Then you will have to figure out with the limited help you get, how to get to the parking garage. I do not need my hand held, but the directions they gave were useless. Also, if there is a problem in your room, our drain didnt work and neither did any of the electric converters, the staff make you feel as if you are insulting their property. This feeling I believe is brought on by the woman owner. She is arrogant, rude and haughty. Even some of the staff dont like her.. they said so... Her behavior is very apparent to the guests.

The breakfasts were good, but the waiter in the breakfast room, will barely acknowledge you. It seemed as if it was a common theme in the hotel.

I will skip the details, (that included the owner admonishing and embarrasing the bartender for talking to me), but I will share our last day. Prior to check out, we were going to bring our carry on bags, and purchases up to the car which was parked several blocks away, so we didnt have to drag them through the alleys. (There is no parking). The woman owner came chasing us down the street to see if we were leaving without paying our bill!! I could not believe it!! The best assest this hotel has, is the evening desk man, named Pasquale. He is a true gentleman, and very accomadating. You can tell he has worked in the hotel business at a higher level than the service at the Guardati.

So,needless to say,for what amounted to $1,080.00 american dollars for 3 nights, I will not recommend this hotel and the next stay in Sorrento, I will take my business elsewhere...

p.s the Antiche Mura is up the street and looks beautiful!

“The Best Hotel!!”

Palazzo Guardati

Palazzo Guardati has to be the BEST hotel in Italy. We booked 3 rooms and stayed for 3 nights from the 20th-23rd December and everything was just fantastic.
My sister-in-law and her family stayed at the same time and were equally impressed with the hotel and staff.
The photos of the hotel on the website depict the hotel accurately - in fact it is much nicer.
This hotel has been recently opened and not is everything still shiny and new but it is decorated to the highest standard, with all the comforts that you could ever want. The rooms are spacious. The bathrooms are just lovely and ours even had a double shower. The rooms and bathrooms, in fact the whole hotel is spotlessly clean. Internet access was also available at a small cost.
We spoiled ourselves with a deluxe room on the third floor which had a balcony and offered quite a bit of a sea view along with views of Vesuvius, the hills and houses in the distance and even a glimpse of the main piazza - just heaven!!!
The standard rooms that our children stayed in were also of the same standard of decoration and cleanliness but didn't offer the view. There is also a sun roof decorated with lovely outdoor furniture that also offers magnificent views.
We were warmly welcomed and check-in was efficient and quickly organised. Everyone from the owner and reception staff to the breakfast staff and cleaner were all very friendly and helpful during our stay. It is so nice to be looked after by people who are so obviously very proud of the hotel.
The hotel if perfectly positioned near the main piazza right in the middle of the town so it is close to everything - the railway station is close by as is a supermarket and a number of eateries.
We will definitely recommend this hotel to all and would quite happily stay here again.
