We stayed three nights at the Forum and would not hesitate to go back. Caught in a rainstorm, we were totally soaked after the five minute walk from the station, but were treated like arriving royalty by the always helpful staff. Our room was so airy and delightful - my children let it be known that we would be staying here for the remainder of our trip, or I could expect big trouble! No regrets, we visited the whole region using Pompei as our base. The Forum is well located because close to stations on both the state railway and the Circumvesuviana. Also there are several good restaurants close by, unlike the terrible tourist traps near the main entrance to the ruins.
I appreciated the free internet access and the lovely bathroom. Breakfast is only decent, but in a charming setting.

We wanted to be able to take the state train fom Rome and be near the ruins, so we chose this option. the station and town are small and deviod of tourists for the most part. the church is lovely and there is a great tower and the back entrance to pompei. we found the hotel an easy walk and hidden thru a driveway with lovely potted plants.they had welcome Limoncello!!. the room was typical but clean and the bed very firm.We even had a view of the mts and garden...but the best was the breakfast under the gigantic lemon arbor which the fresh squeezed and the fresh hot apricot criossants..The staff were very friendly and helpful tool!! Its a good price

Excellent hotel. Very knowledgeable staff and a very nice room for the price. The hotel offers a very nice and diverse buffet breakfast. Rooms were very clean and well equipped (mini bar, safe, very large closets, extra blankets/pillows). The room also came with a nice sized bathroom with all the amenities. The bed was a little firm, but my dad and I didn't mind. It really all depends on the type of person you are. The hotel is about a 1 min walk from one of the back entrances to the ruins and a bus stop, which will get you to Mt. Vesuvius in about an hour for 3 Euro each round trip. The staff was able to provide a map of the town and the bus schedule, which helped out quite a bit. Overall all, the hotel was an excellent experience for my entire family.

“one big draw back”

After reading the reviews here, I decided to book a night at the Hotel Forum. The staff was pleasant, the place was clean. Internet access was a great bonus. The breakfast was very good. The location was very close to the ancient city. Everything seemed ok until we tried to sleep. The platform bed was so hard that I think we were sleeping on a boxspring rather than a mattress. It made for a difficult night sleep. Generally mattress conditions do not bother me, but this was like sleeping on the floor. My advise is, if you go, check the bed before you accept the room.

The room we stayed in was only very average - a bit worn and cramped with a noisy a/c unit.

On the plus side the breakfast was great - plenty of choice and very tasty.

The staff were welcoming, however the entrance to the hotel could do with a bit of a spring clean as was quite dirty.

The rear entrance to Pompeii is very close however, as we found out, the audio guides are only available at the main entrance (which is a good 20 minute walk from the hotel - in the summer heat)

The town of Pompeii is limited enough - not much to see or do apart from the ruins.

Overall the hotel forum was ok (as a base for visiting the ruins) however if I went again I would probably stay in Sorrento and get the public train into Pompeii. Sorrento appeared to have much more to offer in the way of restaurants, entertainment etc.
