This church holds a number of treasures... with the three Caravaggio paintings, being the most valued..
The three images of the life of St. Matthew are situated "en situ".. i.e. where they were originally were originally placed in the 17th century..... Go early ( note Church closes at noon,, re-opens at 4-4:30 until 7:00pm) as it can get crowded around these painting.. .Bring coins to to light up the paintings..
and... check "The Martyrdom of St. Matthew .... can you spot Caravaggio's self portrait within the painting. Roma has the largest collection of Caravaggio's artwork... See them all !
St. Augosito church is just a stones throw away,, featuring another "en situ" Caravaggio.
