I'm a huge film geek, so it was thrilling for me to be able to visit the legendary Cinecitta studios, where Fellini worked and so many great movies and TV shows were filmed.
However, for 10 euros, you can only go with a guided tour--and, it's completely in Italian. There were some other tourists in my group who also couldn't speak Italian, the guide just shrugged and said it wasn't going to be possible. Well, I just followed her very closely and tried my best. I'm sure if I was able to understand the tour, and I did understand about 5% of it, it would have been even better.
All the same, it was great to be able to get a look at the sets of Gangs of New York and Rome (the TV show). The set of Rome is particularly interesting, and fun since they play the theme music throughout the set.
The Cinecitta buildings where they show you props and the process of making a film is really well done. There is also a building dedicated entirely to Fellini, where they have costumes from his films and various Cinecitta ephemera, my favourite was the Cinecitta account book.
However, we were hurried through by the guards who were very adamant that the place was closing in five minutes, pronto!
So, if you are not an Italian speaker, bring an Italian friend with you to help translate.
