We arrived in Rome late in the afternoon, and after walking around the center, decided to have dinner. We were in a small alley leading to the Pantheon, probably the epicenter of tourism in Rome. There were 10 restaurants to choose from, and we thought they were all tourist traps. One restaurant had two baskets of mushrooms on display, one with fresh Porcini, the other with big reddish mushrooms (later we learned that these were Amanita di Cesare), so we decided to try it. Little did we know that we had stumbled upon a treasure spot. The food there is excellent. Nothing fancy. Using great ingredients, they make food to die for. We were served luscious wines from all over Italy. But above all is their hospitality: the owner Stefano and the chef Katia made us feel very much at home. We found the restaurant for us in Rome. We dined there every night of our stay in the city. A very warm recommendation!
