Apart from the initial surprise in finding that the hotel reception is on the fourth floor of a building in the very centre of the town (just a few minutes from the Quirinale and from Termini railway station), my first impression was quite good: despite of being a two star small establishment, a nice veranda welcomes the traveller and wishes him good morning during breakfast.
However the idyll falls away shortly. The first surprise was that there is no way to leave your baggage watched (even a closed cupboard) unless you don’t care much and leave it unattained near the reception desk. I was at the Nardizzi Americana for business reasons staying four nights with a colleague of mine and I arrived early in the morning (around 10.30). Although I didn’t expected to find my room ready, I hoped for a place to leave my luggage and profit of a couple of free hours before meetings. Eventually, I gave up the stroll in Rome and profited in the veranda of the sunny spring morning.
The second surprise was the room. The simply furbished, but functional (a little table would have been welcomed) two-bed room would have been perfect for the price, if the narrow toilet had not stunk horribly. The overall experience was also marked by the sluggish drain, which implied long pauses during showers to avoid flooding the piece.
The last surprise came at night. The walls of the rooms do not seem to be thick enough so that it was very easy to hear from my bed the switched-on TV set of my sleepless neighbour. This was not a great issue for me, but may keep some also awaken (as the colleague with whom I was travelling).
Overall it is a good-priced hotel at the hearth of Rome, but do not expect too much.
