Having been in Bologna a few days we had to experience making some of the exquisite traditional foods on offer for ourselves. We'd left it late, only emailing the day before, but were so happy when Amici di Babette called us back at our hotel to let us know they could squeeze us in for the day!
Immaculate and professional kitchen but also warm and intimate and the 3 ladies that were teaching were so friendly and gave us every opportunity to feel that we had really made every part of the 3 dishes ourselves. They answered all our questions and we couldn't fault their english, even giving us the chance to try our pigeon Italian.
We diced the veg and made the sauce and Ragu then got to work mixing, kneading and rolling our own pasta. From this we stuffed and folded our own Tortelloni, making Tagliatelli with the rest. We even got some extra tips making Farfalle and Ravioli!
Once we'd prepared the pasta we mixed, rolled, cut and shaped our own Gnocchi - something we'd failed miserably with before at home and not even enjoyed in British restaurants but this was amazing, light and smooth. I could be converted!
Highlight of the holiday and we've been raving about it to everybody since - If you're learning some local cooking in Bologna this is THE place to do it! Also some other options were very pricey, at under 100euros this was great value for money!
The only reason these ladies don't have more reviews is because they've only been offering the school to tourists for a short while, the rest of the time their services and kitchen are in use by some of the regions finest Chefs!
