My first night and 99 steps to my room was worth it for the uniqueness of it all. What a charming place! The outdoor deck, and the maze like floorplan of the hotel, make the charm so much more, not to mention the view! But the following day when I had to stay again due to a train strike and a storm that shut down the ferry, showed me a different side. It was actually the staff that was surprising to me. It seemed as if they were holding out for the highest bidder, to drive the price up. The train was on stike, the ferries were not working, and yet they would not offer me a room because they told me all rooms were booked with people who were to arrive.. Seriously? when? how? The business practices they displayed may be common in Italy, but honestly, I felt as though I was being taken advantage of. In speaking with other tourist, I think that is the general feeling in this town, primarily with this hotelier. I enjoyed my stay and feel lucky to have stayed there. But buyer beware. I paid a beyond fair price for an "OK" room, and alot of non-sense. Call it charming if you will, but I call it annoying.
