We took a train in the morning from Milan to reach Bergamo within and hour. The town is in two parts: lower on sea level (citta bassa) and upper (citta alta) in the foothills of Alps where you go by cable car. The upper city has numerous places of interest like Citadel , Piazza Vecchia ,Palazzo della Ragione.( which houses a selection of paintings), Palazzo Nuovo ; Basilica di Santa Maria Maggiore, Colleoni chapel; Bergamo Cathedral (Duomo). , Rocca (Castle). and the botanical garden.
The lower city is the modern centre of Bergamo. Of artistic importance in Città Bassa are:
picture museum of Carrara academy; and gallery of modern and contemporary art. You find many places to eat, drink, and take rest and enjoy your day.
