As others have mentioned, this hotel is great if you are coming in from Malpensa airport. My husband, 10-year old son and I took the express train from Malpensa to Cadorna station, and walked 3 blocks to the hotel. Although it was quiet at 9:30 PM, it appeared to be very safe (we noticed women walking by themselves at 3 AM ... !) and we had no problems.
The breakfast, which is continental (pastries, cereal, coffee, tea and juice) is lovely. The pastries were VERY fresh, and my husband adored the freshly-made cappuccino! (We're from San Francisco and love Paris, if that helps to judge our sense of pastries and coffee). We thought the breakfast room was quaint, if small.
The man at the desk (who also helps with breakfast) was very helpful and recommended a couple restaurants within two blocks, one of which ended up being one of the best meals we had in our month-long stay (Ristorante Griglieria, 96 Corso Magenta). The next morning, my son and I felt a bit under the weather, and the hotel staff was very helpful, sending tea and toast, and provided advice regarding pharmacies.
The rooms, however, are very basic. Our room was on the first floor, looking out on a quiet, slightly run down garden. The pictures provided by others are much nicer looking than our room, which was a dull white, colorless room. It was quiet, but the beds were a bit hard.
The Duomo (the roof is AMAZING) is a bit of a walk from this hotel, but public transportation is across the street from the hotel. As others have mentioned, the Santa Maria delle Grazie (which contains the Last Supper) is on the corner of the same block, and is simply amazing (but reserve tickets in advance ...)
My husband and son enjoyed the breakfast and the service so much, I'm certain they would want to stay again. If the mattresses were changed, I would definitely stay here again.
