Actually, we have just got back last night, having spent six days there and then 5 in the Zillertal. I can reassure you all it was fine! AFTER we booked it, I looked at Tripadvisor and was reassured by what I saw there. My wife and I had a couple of niggles:- most rooms didn't have a balcony and there was no garden area to sit in of an evening, which is something we miss. Also, no lift- not a problem for us, but wouldn't suit older/ disabled people. The main issue was that the first room we had was a bit small, (about 12x 14 but with a small lobby and bathroom off this- apparently the bedroom was formerly the house chapel!) and because of hot weather we had to keep the window open- this meant noise in the evening, as the Italians like to do the "passegiata" quite late in the street below. Also, although in a pedestrian zone, there were some deliveries being made at pretty anti-social hours most nights- e.g. 4-5 am! Of course, with the window open, this woke us up. Neither of these things are within the control of the hotel, of course.
When we booked, we were told we'd have to change rooms on our last day, and in fact the change was for the better. We were on the 2nd floor, with a dual aspect, larger, room, with a window onto the less noisy street and a velux window in the roof, which allowed a better flow of air.
However, the food was fine, and too plentiful in fact- we had to refuse the pasta course. The village itself is lovely, and the building quaint and attractive, right on the village square with a fountain outside and the bell tower of the church right by the front door. (Currently being renovated , but no noise from this of significance.) The staff were good, cheerful and tri-lingual. Most guests were Italian in fact, and many clearly returnees. It was AMAZINGLY cheap- I think our Half Board deal was about £50 per person per night.
The main attraction is not the village itself, which has nothing in it of significance we felt, but the amazing scenery nearby at the Val De Gardena, and, more locally, the Alpe di Suesi (Seiseralm in German) where there is the most incredible walking available in high mountain pastures which you reach by a combination of bus and/or cable cars. We did about 4 decent walks in the 6 days we were there. There are musical events most evenings
So, it was very good. I think if I were to go there again, I'd probably chose to go outside the village where it would be quieter, or, more likely, stay in Ortisei/St Ulrich, in the Val de Gardena, which is a much larger place. Bit if you are a good sleeper, then I'd definitely say to go there. I suspect that visitors from the USA/Canada would find it particularly fascinating, as the building was in position over 100 years before Columbus set sail!
