I have stayed in this hotel twice and the second time it still lived up to the first time I stayed. The staff are very friendly, pleasant and welcoming. The room was large and very clean. Beds were comfy - I certainly had no problem sleeping! The bathroom was small enough but that didn't bother us (why would you spend a lot of time in a bathroom when you are staying in Venice!).
Breakfast consists of juice, tea/coffee and croissants and rolls with jam, honey etc. Very tasty and a good start to the day. The view from the breakfast room over the street below is completely charming - I could have people watched for ages!
The hotel is really close to the train station (5 min walk) and bus station (Piazzala Roma 10 min walk) and is easy to find - which is something for Venice and its small winding streets.
There are LOADS of restaurants around the hotel - no end of choice, variety and good value. There are many really interesting streets to wander around in this area (Cannaregio) - you really get the feeling you are among local people. Wander a little away from the main streets and you will come across people chatting on their way to or from shopping and you will find great small bars and cafes.
It takes about 10-15mins to walk to Rialto and 20-25mins to walk to St Mark's Square - longer of course if you get distracted by all the interesting shops!
Locanda Casa Martini is a great base from which to explore Venice.

Probably reasonable for Venice

Hotels in Venice are expensive. If I'd paid this amount for this hotel anywhere else I'd have felt ripped off, but I suspect it was reasonable value for Venice.

We booked one of the more expensive rooms and it was basically fine. The decor felt ornate more than luxurious. The bathroom was nice and the terrace was a nice place to have breakfast. Location was fine - close enough to a waterbus stop that it was easy to get everywhere.

My one slight wibbles are that the room opened straight onto the reception which felt weird somehow, making the room seem less private, especially for the first night of our honeymoon. Also, you don't have a key to get in and out of the building so you have to ring the doorbell. Not a big deal, but made it feel harder to just come and go, and you also had the noise of the doorbell ringing in the evening.

I'd probably try somewhere else if I visited Venice again, but also don't especially regret the choice as I suspect you have to pay a lot more to get somewhere much nicer.

I stayed with the girlfriend here for about 3 nights/days in late September. Aqua alta hadn't started yet, the weather was phenomenal the whole time, and the staff and setting of this hotel just added to making Venice a gorgeous stay (should really have stayed another 2 nights... sigh).

Only subtle complaint would be the breakfast... the croissants were phenomenal on the first day... but it was almost like they had bulk bought them because they progressively got more stale through the progressing breakfasts.

The rooms were spacious, very very clean, and the the distance from the train station made it very easy to get to and from Venice when we were checking in / out.

It may not be the most central thing in Venice, but it IS a walking city, and this place would easily get my business every time I'm in the city again (hopefully soon!).

  • Liked — overall ambiance and feel
  • Disliked — really... not much (well, breakfast if you have to be picky)

My boyfriend and I stayed at the Casa Martini for 2 nights during the last week of April. After searching for hotels in Venice online while trying to stay under $250 per night, I became very frustrated - as I wanted to be within walking distance to the train station since we would only be there for 2 days. That's when I started searching the B&Bs. B&Bs generally have been kind of iffy for me - I always imagine you are staying in someone's small house and you would be the only one there, and they would have all kinds of rules or curfews. That is NOT the case with this B&B. First of all, it's in a great location - very easy to walk everywhere. It's on a quiet little alley off a main drag near the Guglie Bridge - and there is a nice little street market outside during the day.

When we arrived we were greeted by a very friendly lady - given our room (24 I believe) which was on the second floor (actually the third floor). It was a beige/blue room. She advised us that there would be someone at the front desk 24/7. I also really liked that we had to ring a bell to be granted access inside. We did have to climb quite a few stairs, but the B&B is really quaint and pretty inside. Our room had double doors - as in 2 sets, and I realized it must be because the building is mostly tiled so there is a loud echo when people walk by. When we closed the second set of doors, the problem was basically solved. The room was bigger than I had expected - much larger than our hotel room in Rome. There was a double bed, a little sitting area, a big wardrobe, and a table and chairs. The only thing I was disappointed about was that there was not a TV in the room - which the website said was included, and I could hear the TV in the room next to ours. I did not complain though, as we were only in Venice for 2 days, and didn't spend much time in the room anyway.

The bathroom was larger than I expected too - and very clean. My only complaint was that there was no bar soap - we had 2 containers of bath gel, but it was hard to get it to lather.

Because the weather was a little cold, we had breakfast in the sitting area on our floor. We got to breakfast a little on the late side, but there was another family there with their children, and another couple. Breakfast was simple - croissants, rolls, jellies, cheese, crackers, juice, coffee, etc. Rolls were a little hard, but the croissants were great.

Each floor - except for the top floor, had a little sitting area, and they were very well decorated. The room was simple, but nice, and the bed was fairly comfortable. Everybody who worked there was nice and helpful. The patio areas were very pretty - even though we didn't get to eat outside. They usually held the key for us at the front desk when we would be out and about - the key was an old skeleton key on a keychain.

The bed and breakfast overall was lovely. The building is quite large as well - and everyone who works there is friendly (and they all speak English fluently). I would recommend this B&B to anyone staying in Venice for a quick trip.

Nice hotel, friendly staff. Great location and quiet. A good find!
Not absolutely 100% clean (dustballs in the corner), but more than clean enough.
BUT: the breakfast was very poor considering the roomrate.
A croissant, a roll and prepacked toast, prepacked triangle of industrial cheese and jams. And poor coffee (in Italy!!).
No fruit, yoghurt, ham or egg. Let alone muesli or fresh juice.

To be honest; this was the only letdown.
