“Fabulous hotel”

Our stay here was a fabulous experience, the hotel is lovely overlooking the Lagoon. Very clean and well kept, the maids do an exellent job. Our room was a double superior on the 3rd floor with a lagoon view, it was great to watch the lagoons activity early morning and evening, even the cruise ships entering and leaving Venice. There is a bench across the road on the promenade which was my favourite place morning and evening, just to sit and watch in tranquility.

The staff were excellent, and very helpful, they provided a free private water taxi to take us to Murano which was a fabulous experience. At breakfast you are spoilt for choice, fruit, cereals, breads, pastries, everything you could want. They also have a cooked breakfast of sausage, egg etc but you have to pay extra for this.

The hotel is a 10-15 minute walk from the main boatstop S. M. Elisabeta, that takes you over to St Marks in 15 mins, there are regular buses that run up and down to the stop in 2 mins, but a word of warning, the buses stop running toward the stop at 8pm, they still come back till late though. I was suprised to learn this from the hotel staff as I had done extensive research. A bit disappointed that there is not much in the line of restaurants, shops and bars in the area, most are near the boat stop 15 mins away. It is much cheaper on the Lido than Venice itself, and there are some good restuarants in Gran Viale S. M. E. also plenty of shops and bars.

I will certainly stay at Russo Palace again, as I plan to go back to Venice many times in the future, and the price is fabulous for a 4 star hotel, we paid 99 euros a night for a superior double in June, and would highly recommend it to others.

“Attic room”

Russo Palace Hotel

19 Jun 2008

The first thing I have to say is don't stay in Venice, stay on Lido. Its a great little island with its own charm and it has a beach which is great. Its really easy to get to on the waterbus, which runs 24hours and the island has a very safe suburb feel to it.

I would rate this hotel as a really good 3 star but not a 4 star. The hotel staff are very helpful and polite. The breakfast is good, cereal, toast, egg etc, and you can eat it outside on the patio over looking the lagoon.

We stayed in the attic room (classed as double economy) and paid 64 euro incl breakfast and taxes. The room is quite small, and you can only stand upright on one side. But we didn’t mind as were only staying one night, and spend the whole day out in Venice and lido and so only really came back to the hotel to sleep. There were two things that impressed me about this room.

1) they had a sky box with lots of channels! I like watching tv at the end of the day before I go to sleep, and it was great to watch some NBA sports, fox sitcoms and they were all in english (other hotels dub them in italian).

2) the bathroom was very nice and clean and the bathtub doubled up as a Jacuzzi which was very relaxing.

However, the attic room is not for everyone. If you’re just staying for a night and don’t mind a small slanted room (probably suit younger people who don't mind too much about their sleeping conditions), then its fine. Otherwise get the classic double, which is a normal room with the same amenities.

One thing to note, is the mosquitos. My partner woke up in the morning with 11 bites all over her. I had none. I have read from other reviewers that they’ve been bitten too, but am giving the hotel the benefit of the doubt (especially since I had no bites).

Overall, I really liked Lido island and so the hotel location was great. The room amenities were excellent, and the price was quite good.

“Great little hotel with lovely views”

The hotel is based on the Lido island a few minutes walk from the beach and Vaparetto from Venice. Staff were very helpful and spoke excellent English. The hotel was a great base to explore the city but escape the crowds and experience a more relaxed environment in the evenings. Rooms were cleaned to a high standard and breakfast was excellent for those with a big appetite. The hotel offers a free water taxi into the city in the mornings which is prompt and should be booked. The staff stored our bags on the last day and for 2 days when we went to Verona, which was a great help in light of the transfers to be made! Most rooms have a good view across the water to the centre of Venice with upgraded rooms having balcony's. I thoroughly enjoyed the stay, especially the sense of relief in getting away from the crowds. However the additional cost of having to buy Vaparetto tickets should be considered when booking this hotel as you can't always get a free ride across the water!! A single is 6 euros each way per person so plan your outings well in the city. Most restaurants on the Lido get busy and we found that most were closed on Thursday, so plan to eat for 7:30 p.m. or a little later. Food on the Lido is also reasonably priced with a meal in the city setting you back at least 70 euros for 2 with house wine!

“Good hotel in a excellent lagoon location”

Russo Palace Hotel

We returned from Venice a week or so ago after staying at the Russo Palace for a week. For us, the Lido was an excellent choice as it was away from the main tourist areas of the City (but only 10 mins from St Marks on one of the free water taxis put on by the hotel every morning). Accomodation standards were good, clean and fairly modern (although rooms were perhaps a little small). We had a nice balcony view of the lagoon with a view towards Castello. Hotel staff were very friendly and helpful.

We decided to splash out with a water taxi from/to the airport to the hotels private pier. This was really worth the expense and is recommended if at all possible as they are an experience in themselves and the route takes you through the canals of the island of Murano.

“Good hotel but not 4*”

Russo Palace Hotel

This hotel is fine, but not 4* by my standards.

The reception area is nice and all the reception staff were very friendly and helpful.

The rooms are average - a bit tired and dim, but neat and clean. The bathroom in my room, however, was really cute - it had obviously been renovated and was very new, modern and bright . A shame that the rest of the room hadn't been renewed also.

My main issue with this place is that there was no room service, so I arrived late and couldn't order anything to eat. There is a list entitled "cafe" - but they only sell alcoholic drinks (not even tea or coffee, and there are no facilities in the room).

The breakfast was OK - a standard continental buffet, nothing very exciting. A pity they didn't use the expresso machine for the coffee!

The services are there, but they're not very good:
there is a TV, but you only get 2 Italian stations or otherwise you can pay for movies
there is a minibar, but no snacks and some of the spirit bottles were already open
there are internet and laundry, but quite expensive.

Unless you need to be on the Lido, I'd advise finding something more central.
