My husband and were thrilled to be able to stay eight days at this fabulous hotel from Dec. 18-26. Our original plan was to spend 2 or 3 days in 3 different cities but I feared after reading these reviews that we would regret having to leave this hotel after 2 nights. So we changed our plans and took the time to relax in this fabulous hotel and slowly explore Venice. It exceeded our expectations! It is as described by so many: gorgeous, friendly, accommodating, with a location which can't be beat for convenience and beauty. Matteo, Barbara, Francesco, Gigi....all went the extra mile to make Christmas a festive and meaningful occasion. When we returned from a delicious Christmas Eve dinner at Antico Doro (our personal favorite and one of many recommended by the staff) we were thrilled to find a little Christmas gift wrapped and on our bed. That little glass gondola ornament with Santa at the helm will always be one of our favorites.
The seafood in Venice is the best I've had anywhere with many thanks to the staff for all their recommendations. We met another "foodie" couple at the hotel and had a wonderful and fun dinner with them and would love to hear from them again (hint).
I still dream about those scrumptious breakfasts: delicious buffet spread including croissants, cakes, cereal, jams, grilled vegetables and tomatoes, sausages....who can remember it all? If that's not enough for you just order a lemon or chocolate crepe or omelette of your desire made well and lovingly by Matteo. The coffee was terrific but Barbara was always at your table immediately to see if you'd like a cappuccino. True bliss in the morning. And all served up in the intimate and beautifully decorated breakfast room with canal views.
Our room was plenty spacious, beautifully decorated, spotlessly clean, with deep bathtub (and separate shower) and never-ending hot water and equipped with decadent towel warmers. The lovely Murano glass chandeliers in the hotel inspired our own purchase of one on the island of Murano. We were aided with some advice by Gigi and both he and Matteo seemed truly interested in watching our little handycam "home movie" of our special purchase at the end of the day!
Matteo knows quite a bit about wine and we really enjoyed hearing his views and sampling from their impressive little wine list. We are still saving the bottle we left with for the perfect occasion. Maybe while we're planning our next trip!
