Although we booked this stay through a convent/monastery booking service, this is far from being either. It has been recently renovated with amenities to match most contemporary hotels. It was easy to reach via the vaporetto from the Santa Lucia train station. Once you arrive at the Zaterre stop, you'll find the monumental facade of the Church of Gesuati just a few steps away. Begin walking along the right-hand side of the church, away from the water. The entrance to the Centro is less than a block behind the church. We were able to reach the hotel with our luggage in tow without much effort.
We paid 140 euros ($210 USD) per night for two nights plus a 127 euro ($190) booking/processing fee through monasterystays.com.
The rooms are comfortable, with large windows and baths. We arrived on a Saturday evening, and we were given a double room with a private bath and two single beds pushed together. The room was simply furnished and clean, but our sink stopper broke while the sink was full of water. We called the hotel staff but were informed it couldn’t be fixed until Monday morning – they day we were checking out. After a night of using the shower to wash our hands and brush our teeth, we dropped by the front desk the next morning, and they offered to move us to another available room. This time, we were able to request a queen-size bed, which was nice. The décor in this wing was a bit different, but still clean. The view was very nice.
In my opinion, the breakfast was very disappointing; there wasn't a large selection of food, and they continually ran out of items. The cappuccino was really good, even though it was made by a self-serve machine. The hotel is located not far from a large grocery store, where we purchased snacks. We enjoyed observing the differences between Italian and US markets. Between the grocery and Centro Culturale, there is a great pizzeria that was suggested to us by a person at the front desk; it was full of tourists and locals alike.
One of our favorite aspects about this hotel was its location in Dorsoduro, AWAY from the highly touristy areas. It was quiet and relaxing near the hotel.
