One of the many Roman sites in town. Pretty riverside location, near the castle. Notice the grooves in the marble floor beneath the arch - centuries of chariots racing through? Must be!

Start your walk through the Castello and Bridge etc here and you will be rewarded with some memorable snapshots, as it shows a totally different aspect of the moat area and river approaches ,than available elsewhere. There are seats and a couple right on the river, so it is a good spot to rest the weary legs as well. The previous reviewer said that Verona is small enough to see in a day !!!! Well I am pleased that we are not traveling in their party, as this is our 5th day here and we still have not seen everything.
No, please do not shortchange Verona; it is a very pleasant place to wander about in and it would be a terrible shame to hurry through such a tranquil city.
Verona being small enough to see it all in one day, permits you to see this interesting "gate" at the edge of the Adige river along one of the principal avenues of the city, Corso Cavour. It is interesting as it was located on the Corso, but during the french occupation of verona in the past it was demolished and later moved as it was too small for the heavy traffic in the area at the time. Don't go out of your way to see, however you will surely pass by it on your way from Castelvecchio to Porta Borsari.
