We just returned from a short stay at the Is Morus. It's still early in the season and the hotel was not full. The weather was unseasonably cold and wet, which of course is not the hotel's fault.
We loved the grounds, the views, the pool (even if we didn't use it due to the weather). The room was spartan but very clean and quite large. I liked the hard bed, but my wife wished for something softer. The staff was friendly and spoke good English all around. We found some interesting side trips in Cagliardi and the mountains nearby. It's a nice place.
Here are my complaints:
First, the restaurant was disappointing. Breakfast and dinner were included in our fees (and I think it's the same for everyone). Unlike some commentators, I thought the breakfast was very good, though not much different from what you might find in a US hotel. Dinner wasn't so good. Only two choices of appetizer, entree, dessert every night (unless, of course, you want to pay extra), and not very memorable. We decided to leave the resort for most of our dinners and all of our lunches after the first one.
Second, we had a neighbor problem that the hotel's facilities made worse. At 10pm, after we had gone to sleep, a family with small kids arrived next door. All their sounds penetrated the walls (and I think the door to the hallway). It was unbelievable, how loudly sounds traveled between rooms. There is, after all, no carpet or rugs or any other noise-killing material here, and the tiles and stucco walls bounce noise around like a big echo chamber. The kids were screaming and stamping around in their sandals on the tiles, the parents invited friends into the room for a noisy dinner and drinking party. I understand the need for patience when a young family arrives late and needs some time to settle in. But this family was not settling in. By 10:30, I visited the front desk to ask for some help. They asked me for continued patience. Call us at 11, they said, if it doesn't quiet down. After 11, the kids stopped screaming, and the party died down enough to make it hard to complain. But we were woken up many more times by short bouts of laughter until long past midnight.
The next night was just as noisy until precisely 11, when our neighbors quieted down (perhaps having been requested to do so by the hotel earlier in the day). My question is: where in the world is it OK to make this kind of noise in a hotel until so late? I make my own children quiet down by 9pm in hotels.
Unless the Is Morus does something to dampen noise between rooms, I don't think I would want to return. If you rent a separate villa, of course, this isn't a problem.
